There is a fresh storm in the Indian national cricket team and this time religion has become an issue among the cricketers amid the war between America, Israel and Iran.

A social media post revealed that all is not well between India leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, fast bowler Mohammed Siraj and star Mohammed Shami.

A big controversy has arisen over Yuzvendra Chahal’s post.

Actually, Yuzvendra Chahal’s simple social media post turned into a major controversy as a fan claimed that Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami have unfollowed the Indian spinner because of this post related to the ongoing war between the United States-Israel and Iran.

It all started when Yuzvendra Chahal shared a picture of a man’s T-shirt. The message printed on it says, “Support the country you live in or go and live in the country you support.”

Even though he did not directly talk about the war or the death of Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, many people linked his post to the ongoing emotional situation related to Iran.

Fans divided over patriotic message

Some supporters said that Yuzvendra Chahal was only talking about patriotism and respecting the country where you live, especially at a time when the situation is like the next world war. But some people believe that a public figure should be careful when sharing messages when emotions are already running high.

Soon after the post went viral on the social media platform, a user posted that both Siraj and Shami had removed Chahal from their following list on Instagram at a time when emotions were already high in parts of India following the death of Ali Khamenei.

People from the Shia community took to the streets in various parts of India following the alleged death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a United States-Israel airstrike. For many Shias he was not just a political leader.

Khamenei was a top religious guide known as Marja-e-Taqlid and many Indian Muslims follow him for spiritual guidance. A huge crowd gathered near the famous Bada Imambara in Lucknow. People raised slogans and expressed deep sorrow.

Thousands of people came together in Srinagar. Women were seen holding pictures of Khamenei. Many people cried openly. Anger was visible on the streets. Slogans were also raised against America and Israel. For the Shia community in cities like Srinagar, Lucknow and Hyderabad, the loss felt personal, and so did Mohammed Siraj.

Now with all this background, Yuzvendra Chahal’s post has become even more sensitive. The message felt very strong, but the claims that Siraj and Shami unfollowed the Indian spinner are fake. They are still following each other on Instagram and these claims were completely fake.

Notably, Shami and Chahal are not currently a part of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, but Siraj is a part of the national team and is set to face England in the semi-finals. Chahal, who was once the leading wicket-taker for India in T20Is, is not a part of the national team from 2023.
