Mohammed Siraj injured after collision with Tristan Stubbs in Guwahati Test; India’s fast bowler is screaming in pain

Team India’s fast bowler Mohammed Siraj suffered an injury after a collision with South African batsman Tristan Stubbs on the first day of the second Test (Saturday, November 22) at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The right-arm fast bowler was in pain and the match was briefly interrupted in the second session.

India managed to strike twice on the first day, taking one wicket just before tea and another soon after the break. However, Siraj has not taken any wicket in the innings so far.

On the first ball of the 51st over in South Africa’s first innings, Tristan Stubbs pushed a length ball from Mohammed Siraj towards mid-on and ran quickly to take a single. Stubbs tried to avoid Siraj’s follow-through, but his bat accidentally hit Siraj’s left knee.

Siraj limped a few steps before going down due to obvious pain. The physio arrived on the field to treat him while Stubbs examined the bowler and spoke briefly to the umpire. Play was stopped briefly before Siraj received medical attention and recovered enough to continue.

Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav took one wicket each

South African captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and decided to bat first. Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton added only 12 runs in the first five overs. India created an early chance when Markram bowled a delivery to Jasprit Bumrah, but KL Rahul took a direct catch at slip.

The pair settled down after the reprieve and added 82 runs, before Bumrah returned for a brief spell. He made the breakthrough by dismissing Markram for 38 just moments before the tea break. South Africa reached 82/1 at half-time.

India attacked again soon after the resumption of play. Kuldeep Yadav came into the attack and dismissed Rickelton for 35 runs in his very first over, giving India two wickets in four balls. However, South Africa rebuilt with another partnership.

At the time of writing, South Africa’s score was 156/2 after 36 overs, with Temba Bavuma (36) and Tristan Stubbs (32) at the crease.

Temba Bavuma’s side put in a memorable performance in the series opener at Eden Gardens, defending a target of 124 runs to seal a historic win. India now aims to save the series by making a strong comeback in Guwahati.

Rishabh Pant has taken over the captaincy in place of Shubman Gill who was out due to neck problem. India made two changes for the essential test in Guwahati. Sai Sudarshan replaced Gill, while Nitish Kumar Reddy came in for Axar Patel.
