Mohammed Siraj hits Mitchell Marsh on head with dangerous ball, runs to check him in Perth

Team India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj delivered a sharp bouncer to Australia captain Mitchell Marsh in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Sunday, October 16. A well-directed short-pitched delivery from Siraj hit Marsh on the helmet during Australia’s run chase.

Under the leadership of Shubman Gill, India scored 136 runs at the loss of nine wickets in 26 overs in the rain-interrupted match. Wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul was India’s top scorer with 38 runs off 31 balls, which included two fours and as many sixes. Axar Patel and Nitish Kumar Reddy also scored important runs.

On the last ball of the 7th over of Australia’s innings, Mohammad Siraj bowled a short ball which hit the helmet of Mitchell Marsh. The ball, bowled at around 138 kmph, rose sharply from a good length and hit Marsh on the edge of the grill as he misdirected his pull shot.

Siraj and KL Rahul, showing sportsmanship, immediately moved forward to look at Marsh. The Australian physio immediately entered the field to conduct the mandatory concussion test. Marsh was fit to continue, as the shock caused no serious damage.

Marsh removed his skull protector, smiled and proceeded to complete the medical examination. Australia maintained control of the chase after the early dismissal of Travis Head.
