The return of 34 -year -old India National Cricket Team star Pacer Mohammed Shami has been officially confirmed to return to competitive cricket.
Mohammed Shami Duleep Trophy will join 2025 as he is included in the East Zone Squad, which will be headed under the leadership of Ishan Kishan.

Mohammed Shami can be seen in action for the eastern zone
The Duleep Trophy 2025 is scheduled to begin on August 28, and the final of the competition will be held on 11 September. Mohammed Shami will be seen in action from the first game as the East Zone will close the horns with the north region.
Shami will play in the 15-member squad under the leadership of star wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan. He was last seen in action in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2025, while his last first -class game came to Bengal in the Ranji Trophy in November 2024.
Mohammed Shami was purchased by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for IPL 2025 mega auction. However, he failed to justify his value tag and was a terrible campaign.
He played 9 games for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and on an average took just 6 wickets at 56.16, 11.23 economy and 30.0 strike rates.
Shami recently missed the selection for England’s India Tour 2025 as the BCCI felt that he was not fit enough to handle the Test cricket charge.
He may be in a dispute for the Asia Cup 2025 and will be looking at the selectors to go back to the radar for the continental tournament to prove their fitness in the Dalip Trophy.
Abhimanyu Ezavaran named Vice-Captain, Vaibhav Suryavanshi in Standbis
The Duleep Trophy will be played in 2025 zonal format with zonal selectors selecting the squad. The squad in the eastern region was selected by Alokandu Lahiri of Bengal, Abasa Khatua of Odisha, Sunil Kumar Singh of Bihar, Manish Vardan of Jharkhand, Sumit Ranja Das of Assam, and Upanand Debarma of Tripura, Zahrahand State Cricket Association Secretary Saurab Tiwari.
Abhimanyu Ezavaran has been appointed as the vice-captain of the East Zone Squad selected by the selectors. Veteran batsmen are currently part of India’s test team for Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025.
Meanwhile, Akash Deep, Mukesh Kumar and Ryan Parag are also part of the East Zone Squad, but Sudeep Chatterjee has been ignored.
Kishore sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been placed on standby along with Sudeep Kumar Ghami, Mukhtar Hussain, Ashirwad Swain, Swastik Samal and Rahul Singh.
