Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami Their omission has finally been addressed India’s ODI and T20 squad for the upcoming Australia tourHe said that his non-selection was entirely the decision of the selectors, coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill. The veteran fast bowler, who last featured in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, made it clear that his fitness is not an issue and he is determined to bounce back strong through domestic performances.
Mohammed Shami’s reaction on not being selected for Australia series
In a candid video shared on his YouTube channel, Shami dismissed speculations about his fitness and form. “There are a lot of rumors and memes. People want to know my opinion on not being selected for the Australia series. I would just say that getting selected is not in my hands; it is the job of the selection committee, the coach and the captain. If they feel I should be there, they will select me, or if they feel some more time is needed, then it is in their hands. I am ready and practicing.” He said.
Shami’s recent struggle and decline in form
Shami’s performances since his return to international cricket earlier this year have been below his usual high standards. This year he has taken 11 wickets in 11 ODIs at an average of 30.63, which includes five against Bangladesh and three against Australia in the Champions Trophy. Also, his form is also good in IPL 2025 Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) He could only take six wickets in nine matches, raising further questions about his rhythm and consistency.

Responding to fitness concerns, Shami insisted that he is in good shape. “My fitness is also good. I will try to improve because when you are away from the field you need to stay motivated. I played in the Duleep Trophy, bowled 35 overs comfortably and had no problems with my rhythm or fitness.” He said.
Even Shami’s recent domestic innings failed to make the desired impact – he took just one wicket for 136 runs for East Zone in the Duleep Trophy. However, the 35-year-old is determined to prove his worth and make a comeback at the national level.
With India heading towards a generational change in ODIs under the leadership of newly appointed captain Shubman Gill, Shami’s immediate return to international cricket remains uncertain.
