Experienced Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami is making headlines for his strong comeback in domestic cricket after being out of the national team. Despite being left out of the India team, Mohammed Shami has become the talk of the town with his performances in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2025-26.
He has been in sensational form for Bengal in the ongoing first-class tournament. Shami’s performance is completely proving false the claims made by Indian chief selector Ajit Agarkar regarding the fitness of the bowler. Agarkar claimed that the fast bowler was not match-fit and that was why he was ignored for the tour of England and Australia.
Mohammed Shami silenced his critics by making a strong comeback in Ranji Trophy.
However, Shami has repeatedly refuted the claims of the Indian chief selector. The Indian fast bowler, who pointed out that he has been actively playing for Bengal in both the Duleep and Ranji Trophy, questioned how this could be possible if he was not genuinely unfit.

The situation took a dramatic turn when the BCCI decided to intervene and calm the storm. Newly appointed selector RP Singh was sent to Bengal to speak directly to Shami and clarify the situation. The move worked perfectly, as the war of words stopped and Shami completely focused on his matches.
And since then his performances have been giving a strong reply to every critic. In just four innings of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season, Shami has taken an astonishing 15 wickets, including a five-wicket haul that reminded everyone why he is still one of India’s finest fast bowlers.
Mohammed Shami has been extraordinary: Abhishek Porel
Even his Bengal teammate and interim captain Abhishek Porel has praised him a lot and pointed out how dangerous Shami looks with the ball in his hand. Porel was full of praise for Mohammed Shami’s recent performance in the Ranji Trophy.
Bengal highlighted that Shami’s spell against Uttarakhand on the fourth morning was of pure class – something that separates an experienced international fast bowler from an ordinary domestic player.
InsideSport quoted Abhishek Porel as saying, “The kind of spell he bowled in the last 2 Ranji matches was extraordinary. Only a few bowlers in the world have the ability to bowl the kind of spell he did against Uttarakhand on the morning of the fourth day. You can see the difference between a home bowler and a veteran bowler.”

Abhishek Porel says Mohammed Shami is 100% fit and at his peak
Porel, who has been keeping wickets for Bengal, has closely watched Shami’s form and fitness and believes that the experienced fast bowler is in great shape.
Ahead of the Bengal vs Tripura match, he insisted that Shami was looking as sharp and energetic as ever, with no signs of injury or discomfort.
The young captain feels Shami is still at the top of his game, bowling long spells with full intensity and maintaining his rhythm throughout.
Porel said, “He is at his peak; he has no injuries at the moment. It is not like a fielder leaving after bowling his spell. Overall, he is 100% fit. I don’t think he has any niggles or injuries.”
