Mohammed Shami will participate in T20 World Cup 2026! Joining a team brings new life to career

Mohammed Shami’s Indian career is expected to get new wings after his consistent and impressive performances for Bengal in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2025-26. Mohammed Shami has already taken more than 20 wickets in three matches in the premier tournament.

Despite the veteran bowler’s heroics, he has been overlooked for India selection. But there is a ray of hope for Shami to revive his international career. He is set to play in India’s premier domestic Twenty20 cricket championship in a bid to regain his place in India’s T20 team.

If Shami manages to continue his great form for Bengal in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025, it will bring him back into the limelight and could earn him a place in India’s squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026 at home and in Sri Lanka.

Notably, the Indian fast bowler was overlooked for the tour of England and Australia and then for the recent Test series against West Indies at home and now also for the ongoing Test series against South Africa.

Now, it remains to be seen whether Shami’s Ranji heroics earn him a place back in the ODI side for the upcoming three-match ODI series against the Proteas starting on November 30.

Shami was last seen in action for the Men in Blue during their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 win in the UAE earlier this year.

After a stellar performance in the 2023 World Cup, Shami was troubled by injuries, which affected his form and lost his place in the Indian team across all formats.

However, it is also being said that some of Shami’s public statements regarding his fitness did not go down well with the BCCI and the Indian selectors, due to which he is being continuously dropped from the team.

The senior fast bowler was expected to move to England, but his refusal to play for India A also affected his chances.
