Is Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fast bowler Mohammed Shami injured again? This question has been raised during the first match between LSG and Gujarat Titans on 12 April. The Lucknow-based experienced fast bowler has been in form since the start of the ongoing IPL 2026 season.

Suddenly, during GT’s third over of batting, the camera focused on the LSG dugout, where Mohammed Shami was seen sitting outside the playing area. The scene was scary for LSG fans as it looked like Shami was getting some medical attention.

Mohammed Shami injured during LSG vs GT match on Sunday?

LSG fans heaved a sigh of relief as Mohammed Shami came out to bowl again. At present, there is nothing worrying about the fast bowler.

Mohammed Shami has had a good start to his IPL 2026 campaign with Lucknow Super Giants, and has taken important wickets at the start of several matches. The Bengal fast bowler dismissed batsmen like Abhishek Sharma (Sunrisers Hyderabad) and KL Rahul (Delhi Capitals) for a duck in the first overs of the respective matches.

Mohammed Shami had major surgery

Ahead of the season, when LSG roped in Shami, many cricket fans and experts must have raised eyebrows as the fast bowler has been out of Team India for a long time due to fitness concerns. Shami had to undergo serious medical surgery, after which his fitness remains in doubt. However, he proved that he is ready for high-level cricket by bowling consistently for the Bengal cricket team in the last domestic season.

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami underwent successful surgery on his Achilles tendon in London on February 26, 2024 to repair the ankle injury sustained during the 2023 ODI World Cup. The surgery required a long rehabilitation period, due to which he missed IPL 2024 and the T20 World Cup.

He returned to domestic cricket in late 2024. His comeback was not so exciting as he had a poor performance in IPL 2025, after which Sunrisers Hyderabad dropped him from their team.

In the IPL 2025 season with Sunrisers Hyderabad, he took only 6 wickets after playing in 9 matches. The six wickets he took came at an average of 11.23, far from his best.

Ups and downs in IPL career

Overall in his IPL career, the bowler took a total of 133 wickets in 119 matches at an economy rate of 8.63. During the 2021 season, he took 19 wickets in 14 matches while bowling at an economy rate of 7.50 for Punjab Kings.

He started showing his true class again in the 2025–26 domestic season with the Bengal cricket team. In the Ranji Trophy 2025-26, the 35-year-old performed brilliantly for Bengal. He took 38 wickets in seven Ranji Trophy matches, including 8 wickets in the semi-finals.
