Indian Pacer Mohammed Shami has again been given a chance to give a chance to the India Squad for Australia’s upcoming tour. After Snow, former Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar has cited Mohammed Shami’s injuries as a major cause of a sudden decline in his career.
The men’s selection committee announced India’s squad for Australia’s upcoming India tour. The tour includes 3 ODIs, which are to be played from October 19 to October 25. The Indian pacer has paid tribute to former Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar, despite his snub from the team.
Sunil Gavaskar said, “It is not easy for a fast bowler to recover from ankle and knee injury and back injury.”
Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar feels that Mohammed Shami is unlikely to make a national comeback, especially after his recent snub from the ODI series in Australia. The Indian legend said that in the last few years, his frequent injuries have reduced the less possibilities of pacer.
“Yes (Indian cricket has now gone before Shami). I feel so. In the case of Mohammed Shami, this is a real hard climb for him; it’s very, very difficult. You know, that injury does not always help,” Sunil Gavaskar said while talking in India today.
“For a fast bowler, ankle and knee injury, and a back injury is never easy to recover from a back injury. And that is why, perhaps you know, they are not being considered, but what is a great cricketer for India. He is a wonderful cricketer for India.”

The BCCI chief selector, Ajit Agrakar, has explained all his selection to Australia from the tour. Talking to the Indian team about Mohammed Shami’s snub, it is learned that he has not played enough domestic cricket this season.
“In the last two-three years, I think in the last two-three years, I think they have played a match for Bengal and there is a match in the Duleep Trophy. Therefore, as an artist, we know what he can do. But, they will need to play something,” the BCCI selectors said through ESPNcricinfo.
The 35 -year -old Indian speedster comes from a tragic domestic season, which was played by the East Zone in the Duleep Trophy, where he chose one wicket. He also had a bottom-IPL season with Sunrisers Hyderabad, which managed only 6 wickets with an economy rate above 11.
Mohammed Shami was to take India’s major wickets at the recent 50 overs ICC events.
Mohammed Shami played his last match in the 50 -over format for India in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. He emerged as India’s highest wicket taker in the tournament with Varun Chakraborty.
This was the second tournament after the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, where India emerged as a finalist before losing to Australia in the final. Shami converted Hardik Pandya to the side and went as the most wicket -taker in the season with 24 wickets.
India is the highest wicket -taking wicket in veteran Pesar ICC events and ICC is also the highest wicket in the World Cup for India. Despite his stellar records and with a 206 scalp, Shami is not considered for the upcoming World Cup.
