Mohammed Shami was in sensational form in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2025/26 season. Recently, while playing for Bengal, he took 8 wickets in the semi-final match against Jammu and Kashmir. However, he could lead his team in the final of the competition. Shami has been out of the Indian team since March 9, 2025, when India won the ICC Champions Trophy.
Mohammed Shami has also been dropped from the central contract of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). However, he continues to perform well in the domestic circuit and has been the top performer for Bengal in every tournament. He has been the second-highest wicket-taker for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy with 37 wickets in the season.
Will Mohammed Shami make a comeback?
Men’s selection committee member RP Singh Kalyani was present at the ground and saw the excellent bowling performance of Mohammed Shami. In the same game, he also scored a half-century in the first innings.
There may be a possibility that Shami may be called for the Test team, where he last played, on June 7, 2023 vs Australia. Shami had performed brilliantly in the 2023 ODI World Cup and ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Supreme Court sent notice to Mohammed Shami
However, despite the problems on the field regarding his fitness and selection, the problems are not going away for Mohammed Shami. Off the field, the Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Indian fast bowler after his wife Hasin Jahan filed a plea to transfer their ongoing domestic violence and alimony case from Kolkata to Delhi.
This notice has come from the bench constituted by Justice Manoj Mishra and Ujjal Bhuyan, in which the fast bowler and the West Bengal government have been asked to respond to Jahan’s appeal. If the court accepts Jahan’s plea, the case ongoing in Kolkata could be transferred to the capital state.
Jahan said in his plea that it was necessary to move to Delhi to provide better educational prospects for his daughter and as a result, she would be unable to attend court proceedings in West Bengal.
Hasin Jahan further said that as a professional cricketer, Shami travels widely across the country for matches and training purposes. He claimed that Shami has enough resources to fight the case in Delhi without any problem. He also told that his family lives in Uttar Pradesh, which is closer to Delhi than Kolkata.
Is Mohammed Shami’s career over?
Jahan has also requested that the monthly maintenance allowance for him and his daughter be increased from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. The conflict began in 2018 when Jahan filed a criminal case in West Bengal alleging cruelty and harassment. She later claimed compensation as well as maintenance requirements under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act.
However, there has been no response to the notice recently sent to Shami, as the Supreme Court will now look into whether the reasons given by his wife are sufficient to transfer the case from Kolkata to Delhi keeping in mind the convenience of both the parties.
