Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami made a strong comeback in red-ball cricket and shook the chair of Indian chief selector Ajit Agarkar by taking 7 wickets in the first Ranji Trophy match for Bengal.

Ever since Mohammed Shami was dropped from the Indian team on yet another occasion, the player has rebelled with some scathing attacks on the Indian selectors and the Indian management. However, chief selector Ajit Agarkar has said that the only reason behind Shami’s neglect is lack of fitness.

However, Shami, who was injured during the England tour and remained silent on the comment, has criticized Agarkar for his inappropriate statement. He has claimed that he is 100 percent fit and has promised to prove it in Bengal’s Ranji Trophy season.

Mohammad Shami’s befitting reply to Ajit Agarkar

Indian fast bowlers Mohammed Shami and Akash Deep have both been included in Bengal’s squad for the Ranji Trophy. Even after his brilliant performance in the England tour, Akash Deep was not given a place in the West Indies Test team.

Mohammed Shami played for Bengal and bowled 14.5 overs in the first innings and extended his spell to 24.4 overs in the second innings when Uttarakhand were bowled out for 265. He took 7 wickets in the game with an economy of less than 2.00.

The most notable thing about this bowling innings was Shami’s effective spell and his ability to bowl 40 overs for Bengal, ruling out any possibility of him compromising on fitness. Hence Ajit Agarkar’s claims have failed and Shami has again become a topic of discussion among Indian cricket fans.

Will Shami’s return be considered for the South Africa series?

The Indian team has already left for the Australian tour and has named several young fast bowlers in both the formats to be played in the series. So, if Shami’s comeback is finalized by BCCI, it will be during the upcoming home series against South Africa.

India will host South Africa for a two-match Test series, which will be their second home Test series in this WTC cycle. After this they will host the Proteas for three more ODIs and 5 more T20 matches. The tour is expected to begin on 14 November and be played till 19 December.

With Jasprit Bumrah set to play in five T20Is, ending against Australia on November 9, the player could be rested for the home series against South Africa, opening the possibility of a comeback for Mohammed Shami. Like Bumrah, Shami has also taken 450+ wickets in international cricket and has played less matches than India’s No. 1 fast bowler.

SRH decide to part ways with Mohammed Shami ahead of IPL mini-auction

It is being told that Sunrisers Hyderabad is adamant on lifting the trophy this time and is ready to go to any extent for this. The owners have reportedly asked the management to take some drastic measures if needed to improve their squad in the run up to the mini-auction.

Mohammed Shami, who did not perform up to his standards last season after being picked up by Sunrisers for Rs 10 crore, is the first player in the list of players whom SRH is looking to release before the next season. Shami was beaten for scoring runs at more than 10 paces and could hardly find himself between the wickets.
