Mohammed Shami urged some fans to show their support towards the team after trolling Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma during the challenging conditions in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Shami believes that the team is still yet to show its best performance in the tournament.
During the News18 Rising India Summit 2026 on Saturday, the veteran fast bowler showed his full support to the Men in Blue ahead of the match win against West Indies at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Mohammed Shami asked the Indian team management to field its best player combination
After winning all four of its matches in the group stage, Team India suffered a 76-run defeat against South Africa. Due to this one defeat, it remains uncertain for Team India to reach the semi-finals of the current T20 World Cup. They can qualify for the next stage by beating Caribbean on March 1, which will be a tough task to accomplish.
According to Mohammed Shami, the defending champion is still yet to give his best performance. He hopes to see the top form of the Suryakumar Yadav-led team in the Super 8 match.
“When you play in ICC events, your best XI needs to play its best game at that level. The way the Indian team has performed in recent times, I personally feel that the team is yet to deliver and I want to be in the Super 8,” Shami said at the event.
Mohammed Shami urges all Indian cricket fans to show their support
This fast bowler from Bengal has a special appeal to the fans. The seamer asked some fans to stop trolling the batsmen for their performances. Shami asked everyone to support the team if they love the game.
“Many people are trolling Abhishek, or Tilak, Surya, it is very easy to bring people down from top to bottom. I would like to request that if you love cricket then you should support your team in both good and bad times. I personally feel that the team has not performed as per the expectations, the way they have led up to the World Cup”, said Mohammed Shami.
Mohammed Shami further said, “That performance is yet to come and I hope we will see that performance in the coming matches.”
Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Verma will be monitored
Abhishek Sharma struggled with his form throughout the group stage of the tournament. The flamboyant batsman scored three consecutive ducks. In the Super 8 match against the Proteas, the opening batsman scored a few runs, but not enough to help the team win the match.
Abhishek Sharma hinted at a comeback midway through the Zimbabwe match, where he scored a blistering half-century. When India faces Zimbabwe in Kolkata, the eyes of the Indian cricket community will be focused on the batsmen. Tilak Verma would also like to play a long innings to prove his opponents wrong.
