Mohammed Shami produced a sensational bowling performance in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy semi-final between Bengal and Jammu and Kashmir at the Bengal Cricket Ground in Kalyani on Tuesday, February 17. The fast bowler took eight wickets despite not being a contender for selection in the Indian team.

Shami led Bengal’s comeback with a disciplined bowling effort in the Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir. The entire Jammu and Kashmir team was all out for 302 runs in 76.1 overs, with the last batsman Auqib Nabi (42) out. Shami helped Bengal take a lead of 26 runs in the first innings by taking a brilliant eight wickets.

Jammu and Kashmir had a bad start and lost three wickets for 13 runs. However, Abdul Samad and Paras Dogra counterattacked. Samad scored a quickfire 82 off 85 balls, while Dogra added 58 as the pair stitched a 140-run partnership.

Bengal hit back when Samad was caught at cover off Shami and Dogra fell to Mukesh soon afterwards. The innings slipped to 153/5, but Kanhaiya Wadhawan and Abid Mushtaq added 45 runs.

Shami then took control with the new ball the next morning and dismissed Abid Mushtaq, Kanhaiya Wadhawan and Vanshaj Sharma to reduce Jammu and Kashmir’s score to 231/8. Auqib Nabi and Yudhvir Singh added 64 runs for the ninth wicket before Shami ended the resistance by dismissing Yudhvir.
