India National Cricket Team star Pesar Mohammed Shami has discussed his potential retirement after his snub with the Asia Cup 2025 squad.
Mohammed Shami said with a blunt statement that people do not need to worry about their retirement as he would say goodbye to cricket when he gets bored.
There is no place for Mohammed Shami in India’s Asia Cup 2025 Squad
The 34-year-old Right-Arme Pacer was last seen in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, where he played 9 games for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and took just 6 wickets at an average of 56.16. Overall, he has played 25 T20I matches for India and has taken 27 wickets at an average of 28.18.

His last T20i appearance was against England on 2 February at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where he took three wickets. However, he played the game mainly as the preparation of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Despite being a proven match-winner, Mohammed Shami has not been selected in India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad, and the selectors have nominated Jasprit Bumrah, Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh as three expert pacers.
Meanwhile, Shami will be seen in action in the Duleep Trophy 2025 next time, which will start from August 28, and Premier Pesar will be seen in action in the first game as the East Zone will close the horns with the north region.
In an interview with Manak Gupta from News 24, Shami said he was fully prepared to play the Asia Cup, but was chosen. “If I am playing in the Dalip Trophy – I was also ready for the Asia Cup,” he said.
If someone has a problem, then tell me, if it is so, their life gets better if I take retirement – Mohammed Shami
Talking about his retirement, Mohammed Shami ruthlessly targeted his critics, asked him if he had any problem with him, and made it clear that he had no plans to retire anytime soon. He said:
“If someone has a problem, tell me, if it is so, their life gets better. If I take retirement. Tell me whose life I have become a rock in which you want to retire me? The day I get bored, I will leave me. You don’t choose me, but you will not play me internationally.
Mohammed Shami also revealed that his only dream is to win the ICC ODI World Cup Trophy, which India could not lift despite its extraordinary performance in 2023. He said:
“I have only one dream left to win the ODI World Cup. I want to be a part of the team that wins the ODI Cup and brings it home. We were very close in 2023. We had a sense of intestine, but we also feared that we were a knockout stage. It was not in my luck.”
Touchwood This is better now – Mohammed Shami
Mohammed Shami Hall was not part of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy as he was not found to be sufficiently fit to handle the work of Test cricket. However, now their fitness has improved. Pesar said:
“Touchwood it’s better now. I have trained in the last two months, have increased my skills, reduced weight and also increased the load. Let’s see the results that I get now. To be able to bowl my attention and long mantras on getting the rhythm. I have practiced with batting and fielding and have done a lot of jims with batting and fielding. Now everything is comfortable.”
