Mohammed Shami breaks silence on talk of retirement after ignoring India; Special message for LSG

Veteran Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has given a big hint of his retirement from the game, as he has not played for the national team for over a year. Even the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar has not given any indication regarding the future of Mohammed Shami.

Currently, Shami is preparing to make his debut with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The ace fast bowler will be seen in action when LSG hosts Delhi Capitals in the fourth match of the ongoing IPL 2026 in Lucknow on April 1.

I will turn it off when I get tired: Mohammed Shami

IPL 2026 could be the platform for the Bengal star to make a comeback to India. But with so much uncertainty surrounding his return, retirement rumors naturally started flying around. But Shami has made his stand absolutely clear. He will retire only when he feels tired from the game.

Mohammed Shami said in The Shubhankar Mishra Show. Show: “When I’m tired, I’ll end it. But I’m not even thinking about retirement right now because such thoughts drag you down. If this thought comes to your mind, it means you’re already tired. And if you’re tired, it means you’re bored.”

The Indian fast bowler further added, “And I have said this before too. The day I wake up and decide to be bored, that’s the day I will quit. So yes, the day I feel lazy or bored, I will quit. But neither am I bored nor am I lazy. I am enjoying. The results are good and positive.”

Mohammed Shami shows enthusiasm to repay LSG’s trust in IPL 2026

After Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans released him, Lucknow Super Giants have shown faith in him and now he wants to repay that faith with performances in the ongoing IPL 2026. Shami believes that the only thing that matters right now is to remain in good form.

He doesn’t want to think too much about anything, as his main goal is to be confident, put in his best effort, and let the results decide the rest. Shami has stressed that he always focuses on his “rhythm”, whether it is “ok” and plans accordingly.

Shami further said, “As a bowler, I will give my 100 per cent. I will fulfill my responsibilities and try to meet the expectations set for me. Rest, I can’t change my luck. I can only contribute with my attitude and determination. If Lucknow trusts me, I will give my all. Still, whenever you are playing, the main element is satisfaction.”

Lack of communication leads to conflict

Despite a good performance in the 2025–26 domestic season, where he took 67 wickets across all formats, Mohammed Shami was not recalled from India. In fact, the situation became tense when Shami publicly said that he was not getting proper clarity from the selectors.

After this there was a heated argument between Shami and Ajit Agarkar. Earlier, there were rumors that his name was considered for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2025-26, but Shami reportedly left himself out as he had not fully recovered from his first leg injury. The same thing reportedly happened before the England tour and these things did not help him at all.
