Mohammed Shami and star all-format pacers set to be left out of BCCI Central Contracts 2026

The recent reports on renewal of BCCI contracts have been shocking for Indian fans. The blow still continues for Mohammed Shami, as the veteran fast bowler may lose his central contract with the BCCI along with Bengal teammate Mukesh Kumar.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to announce its central contracts for the upcoming season, and from the recent reports it is clear that India is going to see a massive change in the power dynamics.

Current contracted BCCI players:

Grade A+: Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja

grade A: Rishabh Pant, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya.

grade B: Suryakumar Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Akshar Patel, Shreyas Iyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal

Grade C: Rinku Singh, Tilak Verma, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dubey, Ravi Bishnoi, Washington Sundar, Mukesh Kumar, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Rajat Patidar, Dhruv Jurel, Sarfaraz Khan, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ishan Kishan, Abhishek Sharma, Akash Deep, Varun Chakraborty and Harshit Rana.

Mohammed Shami to be removed from BCCI contract after international insult

Since new contracts may be announced soon, not everyone’s story is a surprise. Some players will have to face the unfortunate dismissal of BCCI. Considering the recent situations, Mohammed Shami is one of the biggest names to be dropped from the contract renewal.

This fast bowler from Bengal has had a special performance this time in the domestic season. He has been the best for Bengal in games played in the Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Along with Mohammed Shami, who may lose his contract due to his continued unavailability due to injuries, his Bengal teammate Mukesh Kumar, who unlike Shami, was contracted with the BCCI under Grade C, may also rule himself out.

All these years, Shubman Gill was eagerly waiting for the last time he was placed in Grade A. However, he may be promoted to Grade A+ after being given importance as India’s player in all formats and captain in two formats.

Several other important players for the Indian team in the coming years, such as Hardik Pandya, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Verma and Abhishek Sharma, could all get promotions in their contracts.

While KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya could be considered for A+ contracts, youngsters Jaiswal, Abhishek and Indian vice-captain Shreyas Iyer could get Grade A contracts. Players like Axar Patel could be seen moving to an A contract, while Ravindra Jadeja could be demoted for the restructuring.

Indian legends to be removed from Grade A+ after Test retirement

Some of the demotion ideas have shocked Indian fans. There has been speculation that Indian legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be given a new status in the BCCI central contract by removing them from Grade A+.

This could also be a result of his decision to retire from the Test format. This decision is in line with the idea that they are useful only in ODIs and no other formats. Some reports have also claimed that Jasprit Bumrah may also get demotion due to the restructuring, but this seems very unlikely.

But what has been assured is that Mohammed Shami will no longer be a part of India’s plans in international cricket.
