Mohammad Aamir takes a dig at India’s combination: South Africa defeated India by 76 runs in the first game of Group 1 of the Super 8 stage at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad last Sunday. After West Indies’ 107-run win against Zimbabwe, India’s qualification scenario is in limbo, with two matches to win against Zimbabwe and West Indies.
Ahead of the Zimbabwe match, former fast bowler Mohammad Amir has once again taken a dig at the India national cricket team as he believes that the defending champions will not qualify for the semi-finals and he stood by his comments in a recent interview on a Pakistani media channel.
‘I always say that we should respect opinions’- Mohammad Aamir
Aamir’s prediction has proved correct for now. As India’s chances of qualifying for the last four have diminished. Aamir was asked, ‘You had said that he would not be able to reach the semi-finals, but now we can see the branches of the semi-finals. What do you have to say?
Mohammad Aamir replied, “Look, Shahzeb Bhai, earlier also I spoke according to the knowledge of cricket that we had, because South Africa was playing cricket. I always say that we should respect the opinion. Your opinion may be different, mine may be different. I was speaking as per my cricket knowledge.”

Mohammad Amir said, “India are in big trouble now, how will they reach the semi-finals, especially after West Indies’ win over Zimbabwe? Their NRR has skyrocketed and India is in complete chaos at the moment.” pic.twitter.com/MiD8eYaZhy

“Because if you look at the overall match-up, the match between South Africa and India tomorrow, you can see that they have a very balanced team. You cannot write them off. And the way they have played cricket, they have been consistent. If you look at their record so far from the 2024 World Cup, South Africa is the most dangerous team. So, credit where credit is due, we should give it.”
‘I think some people there did not like our opinion’- Mohammad Aamir
Mohammad Amir also spoke in a talk show named ‘Hasna Mana Hai’ about the backlash he faced when he was asked to choose the semi-finalists, where he chose West Indies and South Africa instead of India from Group 1, as he believed that Suryakumar Yadav’s team would not be able to reach the last four of the major event.
Aamir further said, “And I think some people there did not like our opinion. Actually, a lot of people did not like it. They also give opinion about Pakistan. We never gave such reaction. Because if we are talking about cricket, I think we should respect the opinion of cricket. The one who plays good cricket wins.”
Aamir took a dig at India’s composition
Mohammad Amir also pointed out the wrong combination of Team India as they left out Axar Patel against the Proteas, who has also been the vice-captain of the team and has performed well against the Proteas as well. He also talked about the decline of India’s batting since the beginning of the tournament.
Amir further added, “And you can look at the combination of the Indian team. I am not saying that you should look at their overall combination. They also sat Kuldeep and he is a match-winner. It is a blessing to have a left-arm wrist spinner in the team. And then they sat Axar Patel. They are making their mistakes.”
“And when I was talking about them, I was saying that they were going through a tough time. You could see their batting throughout the tournament. Even against smaller teams, their batting was collapsing. Although I believe there are no small or big teams in cricket, but still, if you see them against Netherlands and against USA, their teams were collapsing.’
