Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir had to change his tune after Team India’s thrilling seven-run win over England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday. The Men in Blue held their composure in a massive run chase to defeat England in the second semi-final of the tournament.
India has officially booked its ticket for the T20 World Cup 2026 final. They will travel to Ahmedabad to face New Zealand in the final summit clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, March 8. Notably, the Men in Blue have a chance to become the first team to win three T20 World Cups.
India played complete cricket today – Mohammad Aamir took a U-turn from his prediction
After the match, Amir blamed England’s poor fielding for the result and said that dropping important catches completely changed the momentum of the match. He said that Harry Brook dropped the catch of in-form batsman Sanju Samson, which made a difference to the result.
“India played complete cricket today. They haven’t played like this in the entire tournament, although I always said they were a good team,” Mohammad Amir said.
“If you drop an in-form batsman, that’s what happens. When you drop a catch when you are on 15 and he scores 90 off 35 balls, it makes a difference. In the end, you lose by just seven runs,” Mohammad Amir said.
England could have chased the target an over earlier – Mohammad Aamir
Mohammad Amir said that the bowling attack of both the teams was similar, except for one big difference in Jasprit Bumrah. He also praised Axar Patel for taking advantage of the opportunity under extreme pressure.
“I think England’s fielding was the big difference between the two teams. Overall, apart from Bumrah, the bowling of both the teams looked quite similar,” Aamir said during his analysis.
He said, “Harry Brook dropped a catch off an in-form batsman, while Axar Patel took two brilliant catches. Harry Brook and Will Jacks were batting really well. Had the catches not been taken, England could have chased down the target an over earlier.”
Mohammad Amir speaks on his semi-final prediction that went wrong:
“India played perfect cricket. It is not my fault that England dropped the catch of an in-form batsman like Sanju.
The difference between the two teams was fielding and Jasprit Bumrah.” pic.twitter.com/JPz9nlDDtJ

India made the highest knockout score in T20 World Cup
England captain Harry Brook won the toss and decided to bowl first, but India posted a total of 253/7. This is the highest score so far in a T20 World Cup knockout match. Sanju Samson played a sensational inning of 89 runs in just 42 balls with the help of eight fours and seven sixes.
Ishan Kishan (39), Shivam Dubey (43) and Hardik Pandya (27) helped India cross the 250-run mark. Will Jacques and Adil Rashid took two wickets each. Joffra Archer gave 61 runs in his four overs.
In reply, Jacob Bethel fought bravely for England and scored a storming century. Bethel scored 105 runs in 48 balls, which included eight fours and seven sixes. However, Jasprit Bumrah’s brilliant death bowling proved decisive as England finished on 246/7, falling just seven runs short.
