Mohammad Aamir and Ahmed Shehzad joined hands to lavish praise on Indian opener Sanju Samson after his phenomenal innings that took India to the final in the West Indies decider. Taking aim at Sanju, Aamir compared him with former Indian captain Rohit Sharma.

Former Pakistani batsman Ahmed Shehzad has praised the Indian opener after his brilliant innings against West Indies. Samson’s innings actually came when it mattered most for India.
“He plays too late. However, there has been a lot of injustice to him, he has been dropped from the team despite performing well. This time too, he got a chance because others failed to score runs at the top of the order,” says Shehzad while talking about Samson’s unjust snub from the T20I XI.
Ahmed Shehzad pointed to the huge competition among players in the Indian team, as he said on Sanju Samson’s neglect, “But he plays too late and takes the whole time to bend on a shot. As you know, Aamir scored two centuries against South Africa in South Africa. Now, can you imagine a Pakistani player who scored two centuries against players like Johnson and Rabada and then was out of the team for the next 5 years? But he Out within the next three months; there is such competition in India.”
He concluded, “Despite how much pressure he must have been feeling there, he kept his nerves under control very well. He is a very mature player and he showed that out there today. A phenomenal innings.”

While Ahmed Shehzad pointed to Samson’s mentality of playing late shots and often waiting on the ball, which gives him more control, Mohammad Amir claimed that he finds glimpses of former Indian captain Rohit Sharma in him.
“I see glimpses of (Rohit) Sharma in Sanju Samson,” says Mohammad Aamir.
This seems like a great comparison, as Rohit Sharma is a legend in his own right and, to date, is the highest T20I run-scorer for India. Sharma was renowned for his supreme control, timing and ability to clear the fence with ease, which was the highlight of Samson’s innings yesterday.

Sanju Samson broke Virat Kohli’s record by reaching the semi-finals.
Sanju not only batted to bail India out of a situation when Indian fans had lost most of their hopes. After the dismissal of Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan within the powerplay, Samson played a masterclass in partnership with the captain, Tilak Verma, Hardik Pandya and finally Shivam Dubey.
