Mohammad Aamir attacks Mohsin Naqvi over fine on Pakistani stars

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly imposed a fine of Rs 5 million on each player of T20 World Cup 2026 team PKR. PCB took this drastic step after Pakistan’s exit in the Super Eight stage. This was the fourth consecutive time that they failed to reach the semi-finals of an ICC competition.

Reports have claimed that this fine is for the poor performance of Pakistani players. The decision came right after Pakistan’s heavy 61-run defeat to India in the group stage. That defeat shocked fans and angered PCB officials. Earlier, fast bowler Mohammad Aamir got angry on the live TV show.

Mohammad Aamir hits back at Mohsin Naqvi and PCB

Mohammad Aamir has openly attacked this step of PCB. He raised the question why only the players should suffer. He said that if performance is the issue then Pakistan selectors and top officials should also take responsibility. He made it clear that players should not become easy targets.

Speaking on Geo News’ ‘Harna Man Hai’ show, Mohammad Amir said, “If fines are the solution, then apply it to everyone from the selectors to the administration. Players were not forced at gunpoint. If the wrong combination has been chosen, hold those selectors accountable. Stop scapegoating the players; this is not a real solution. Why do players have to suffer all the time?”

Fine is not a solution: Mohammad Aamir

The former Pakistani fast bowler has stressed that fines will not help Pakistan cricket. He believes the real solution is to improve domestic cricket and build a strong bench strength. Aamir has said that dropping poorly performing players causes more harm than cutting their money.

Amir further said, “Fines are not a solution. I have been saying from day one, invest in domestic cricket. Don’t fine players; remove them and ask them to perform consistently for two years. The biggest punishment for a player is being dropped from the team.”

Shahid Afridi condemned the fine on PCB, called the move small-minded

Meanwhile, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has also criticized the decision to impose fine on Pakistani players. He called it a small-minded step and said that such action has no meaning. The veteran all-rounder said that taking money from players will not solve the big problem.

Afridi believes that the focus should not be on penalties but on performance. He stressed that players who failed to perform well should return to domestic cricket and prove themselves again. Afridi stressed that dropping players and making changes in the team is a bigger and better punishment than a fine.

“It’s an incomprehensible decision; it’s small-minded – they’re thinking small. What will they do with PKR 50 lakh? In my opinion, it’s not a real penalty,” Afridi said on Samaa TV.

Pakistan’s journey to T20 World Cup 2026

Notably, the Men in Green crashed out of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Super 8 stage on February 28. Pakistan won their last match against Sri Lanka by 5 runs, but that win was not enough. They needed to control the target better and keep Sri Lanka to 147 or below to move past New Zealand.

Sri Lanka reached 207 and this ended Pakistan’s hopes of semi-final qualification. In the group stage, Pakistan won three matches and lost one. They defeated Netherlands, USA and Namibia but suffered a heavy 61-run defeat against India.
