However, a more recent trend has marked players reversing their retirement to return to international cricket, as QDK recently did for South Africa. Moeen Ali had earlier reversed international retirement to return to English domestic cricket.

Having played franchise cricket mainly in India and England, Moeen Ali has scored 3178 runs in 126 career matches in the Vitality Blast T20 and 1167 runs in 73 matches in the IPL. While he is just one wicket short of 100 T20 Blast wickets, he has taken 41 wickets in the IPL.

Moeen took a break from IPL to play in PSL for the 2026 season
After a good career in the IPL during his international playing days, the former English all-rounder is slowly losing his priority in the IPL. After leaving the CSK camp, Moeen has not been able to perform at his best.
He was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders and played a few matches in the last season. However, despite trying at several positions, the great Englishman failed to perform well with the bat and was beaten when he came to bowl.
He was then released by the Knight Riders ahead of the IPL 2025 mini-auction. They then decided to withdraw from the IPL auction pool and switch to the PSL for the upcoming season. He has scored 138 runs in 9 matches in the 2020-21 PSL season.
