Australia’s fast bowler Mitchell Starc opened his retirement from the T20i format just six months before the T20I World Cup 2026. Fast bowler of the left hand said that he decided to retire from T20is to preserve his body for Test cricket, saying that he considered retiring from Odis.
The Starc Test will continue to play in the ODI and Franchise League. The 35 -year -old took 79 wickets in 65 T20I at an average of 23.8, with an economy rate of around 7.75. He was also part of Australia’s 2021 T20 World Cup winning squad. Stark last played for the Australia cricket team in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

“If I was not going into the frame for 2027, I didn’t want to catch the opportunity. I still feel that I have got a lot to offer that ODI team. I thought about it for a while. I think it was probably a good time,” Michel Stark told Cricket.com.Au.
He said, “Now I am 35 years old, the tests have always been my priority and they will remain my priority. For a better duration, I want to feed my body as much milk as I can do as much as possible for cricket. It was never going to be out of the table,” he said.

Mitchell Starc said he still has a lot to offer Australia’s ODI squad for the 2025 ICC World Cup. Left -handed pace said that his goal is to expand his international cricket career.
“I felt that I had to give one of the other formats. I feel that I have got a lot to offer the ODI team, with that goal of bringing my body to 2027 – but it was quite good to be in that team for the World Cup in 2027. I felt that this was my best chance to length my test career and reach that World Cup.
Stark will be 37 when the next ODI World Cup is. He is the most qualified member of Australia’s speed attack with Pat Cummins and Josh Hazelwood. Pacer was part of Australia’s winning squads in 2015 and 2023 editions.
T20 team looks very settled – Mitchell Stark
The fast bowler expressed confidence in Australia’s “Preity Basse” T20I pace attack. Stark said the team is well deployed and there is no need to disrupt its current balance.
Stark said, “The T20 team is very set with those who have come inside; they have done some great stuff.” “Nathan Alice is flying, Ben Dwarshuis has played a great role, Spencer Johnson has done some good goods when he is played, Scene Abbott. I think this team is in a great place and I don’t need to interrupt it.”
Australia is set to visit New Zealand for the three -match T20I series starting on October 1, with all the games set in Bay Oval, Mount Munggui. Veteran all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has returned to the 14-member squad.
Matt Short, Mich Owen and Xavier Bartlet are also included. Captain Pat Cummins is unavailable due to a rear issue, and Nathan Ellis is on paternity leave. The second and third T20Is are scheduled for 3 and 4 October.
