Mitchell Starc has once again proved that age is nothing more than a number with his heroic contribution in Australia’s 4-1 Ashes 2025-26 win over England on home soil. The 35-year-old fast bowler, who made headlines for his pace, stamina and match-winning impact in this Ashes, has revealed his plans to retire from Test cricket.

Mitchell Starc ends retirement talks after Ashes win

Amidst the constant discussion about age and workload, Mitchell Starc shows no signs of slowing down. The left-arm fast bowler said the thrill of wearing the baggy green keeps motivating him, and he feels he still has a lot left in the tank, hinting at a trip to England for the Ashes 2027.

The Australian star has insisted that he will not consider retiring from the game as long as he believes he can make a real difference and help Australia win. “I obviously haven’t had a chance to think about it yet,” SEN Cricket quoted Starc as saying.

He added, “I think just wearing the baggy green is enough incentive to keep going. Even though I’m still able to play a role in this group, and I feel like I can contribute in major ways, I’d love to go out there and empty the tank for the team.”

Starc shares his plans for 2025-26 after the Ashes

Having retired from T20I cricket in September 2025 to focus on Test and ODI cricket, especially with the 2027 ODI World Cup in mind, Starc wants to use this break wisely.

“Now without T20 cricket, I have got a chance to just sit and think for a few weeks, maybe rebuild the body a bit, and go again. I will sit back and watch the women’s team perform against India and watch the guys perform in India as well,” he said.

No expiry date on people: Stark takes aim at AGE debate

Mitchell Starc also addressed the growing discussion over age in modern sports. He clarified that there should not be any fixed expiry date for the players.

He concluded by saying, “I think a lot has happened with the age profile. Games have changed, and life has changed. There’s no reason why people can’t go longer, or there’s no end date for people. Like I said, when you’re contributing, or when you’re in the best group of players, why do you have to put a limit on a guy or a girl of a certain age?”

Mitchell Starc turns back the clock to reignite the Ashes

Mitchell Starc was one of the biggest heroes of the 2025-26 Ashes series. The senior fast bowler played all five Test matches without any break, which is a big challenge for any fast bowler, especially in a long and intense Ashes battle. He bowled over 150 overs in the five-match Test series and still kept his pace fast, regularly touching speeds above 140 kmph.

His impact was not limited to bowling alone, he also scored two valuable half-centuries, proving his all-round usefulness to the team. Still, there was no sign of fatigue, just control, rhythm and hunger, and the numbers show how he impressed.

Starc took 31 wickets at an average of 19.94, including two five-wicket hauls. He won two Player of the Match awards and was Player of the Series, earning the Compton-Miller Medal. Starc has now won Player of the Series awards in both England and Australia in the Ashes.

At an age when many players start to slow down, Starc looked strong, fresh and in complete control. This Ashes was not just another series for him, but the fast bowler reminded everyone why he remains one of the most reliable and dangerous weapons in Test cricket.
