Mitchell Marsh and Tim David made a partnership of 59 runs for the third wicket. David, who survived the early chances, played with an aggressive approach. However, Varun Chakravarthy took the wicket of Marsh in his second over. The Australian captain went back to the dressing room after scoring 11 runs in 14 balls.
Varun bowled a brilliant googly which dismissed Mitchell Owen for a golden duck. The right-handed batsman tried to cut the delivery but misread it completely, leaving a gap between bat and pad as the ball spun back sharply and hit off and middle.
