Australia’s T20I captain Mitchell Marsh has reportedly been ruled out of their T20 World Cup 2026 opener against Ireland, which is scheduled to take place at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday, February 11. Steve Smith included in the team may get a chance to join the team in Sri Lanka.
Australia will start its T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland today. They are already without Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, while Tim David is not available for his first match. After the Ireland match, the Men in Yellow will get just a day’s break before facing Zimbabwe on Friday, February 13.

According to foxsports.com.au, Mitchell Marsh is suffering from a testicular injury. The report says that a race is being made to include Steve Smith in the team as cover. Smith was initially left out of the World Cup squad despite good recent performances, including in the Big Bash League.
On Wednesday, Smith was taking part in the LIV Golf Pro-Am event in Adelaide with Australian golfer Cam Smith. However, following Marsh’s injury concerns, the Australian Test star is now set to travel to Sri Lanka, where Australia will play their group stage matches.
