The turning point of the match was Mitchell Marsh’s inning of 90 runs. The LSG opener single-handedly snatched away the momentum from Chennai Super Kings. With nine fours and seven sixes and a strike rate of 236.84, he scored 90 runs off just 38 balls.
Marsh-storm dashes CSK’s hopes
After Mitchell Marsh’s marathon innings, the bowlers of the yellow team were left with very little room to make a comeback. Nicholas Pooran spoiled the rest for Lucknow Super Giants. LSG won the match by 7 wickets and 20 balls remaining.
After the match, Mitchell Marsh shared these thoughts on the win and his individual innings. At the presentation ceremony, the Australian batsman said that they have a very dynamic team, a good, balanced group with experienced and emerging players. This victory is like a reward for him and the team.
“Yeah, look, it’s obviously nice to get a win. It’s been a very low season for us this year. As a group, we’ve been together, and it’s really nice to get a little reward tonight. We’ve got great guys in this group. Some great young kids.”
“And we know sometimes we don’t execute well on the field, but it’s still a great group. And I think sometimes when things aren’t going well, that’s the group that we have. So it’s really good to get a win tonight,” Mitchell Marsh said.
For his brilliant individual performance, Mitchell Marsh noted the early support given by his opening partner Josh Inglis. After the first few overs inside the powerplay, they got used to the nature of the pitch, which made their task easier to score runs.

Mash said, “He (Josh Inglis) definitely feels like it takes the pressure off me with the way he moves. And we’ve obviously grown up together over the last eight years playing for Western Australia. So we know each other very well. It was a good partnership tonight.”
“I think after the experience, obviously now that there is a red clay wicket here, I have learned that the first 2-3 overs can be tough work. And if you look at the beginning of the tournament, we were behind by two or three in those periods, and we were not able to take the lead.”
Mitchell Marsh said, “And today we thought we would support the new power play as much as we can. And then when you get going it is a good wicket.”
