On Friday, November 21, India A suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Bangladesh A in the first semi-final of the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025.
India A’s baffling strategy of not using explosive 14-year-old opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the Super Over cost them dearly, as they were bundled out for 0 at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha.
Bangladesh A beats India A in Asia Cup Rising Stars
In the first semi-final of the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025, the Men in Blue opted to bowl first and had a poor performance in the first innings.
Barring Harsh Dubey and Suyyash Sharma, the Indian bowlers were given a tough challenge by the Bangladesh A batsmen, who posted a mammoth total of 194/6.
Chasing the target, Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Priyansh Arya provided a strong start to the team but the middle-order batsmen failed and in the end, the Men in Blue needed three runs off the last ball to take the game to the Super Over, which they achieved due to a terrible mistake by Bangladesh A.
Notably, Harsh Dubey hit the ball towards long-on, and with Nehal Wadhera reluctantly going for a double, and the Bangladesh keeper lost his senses and bowled the ball close to the underarm onto the stumps, missed, and there was no back up, leaving India with 3 runs.

Then in the Super Over, Jitesh Sharma and Ramandeep Singh came to bat and Vaibhav Suryavanshi was not there, who scored 38 runs in the match at a strike rate of 253.33.
Jitesh Sharma was bowled by Ripon on the very first ball and after his dismissal, Ashutosh Sharma was sent to bat in place of Vaibhav and he too was out on zero. During the run-chase, Bangladesh lost a wicket, but Suyyash Sharma’s wide sealed the deal.

Good game of cricket, good learning for us – Jitesh Sharma
Jitesh Sharma was a disappointed man after the defeat, and he took all the blame on himself for the dreadful defeat against Bangladesh A. He said:
“Good game of cricket, good learning for us, I will take full responsibility, as a senior I should finish the game. It is about learning, not about losing.”
“You never know, these guys can win the World Cup for India some day. They are skyrocketing in terms of talent. It’s all about learning and experience. My wicket was the turning point. I know how to handle these situations. He bowled really well. Whoever bowled the 19th over, credit to him.”
We were in control for the entire 20 overs, don’t blame anyone – Jitesh Sharma
Jitesh Sharma also revealed why Ashutosh Sharma and Ramandeep Singh were selected to bat in the Super Over and not Vaibhav Suryavanshi. He said:
“All 20 overs we were in control, don’t blame anyone. It’s a good game, that’s all. They are masters of the powerplay (Vaibhav and Priyansh) but in the death it is me, Ashu and Raman who can hit at will.
“So it was the team’s decision and my decision (lineup for the Super Over). The lefty guy who played the innings, playing those shots is unbelievable, he has an unbelievable future as well.”
