Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is over and the players are busy with their respective international assignments. Meanwhile, former Australia captain Michael Clarke, who has been an integral part of the commentary team during the IPL, has shared a horrifying story from his life that happened after the IPL final between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT).
The 2015 ODI World Cup-winning captain, who was also part of the commentary team in the final, revealed that he was involved in a serious road accident when he was heading to the airport shortly after the final, describing the incident as a horrific experience as he was grateful to have escaped with only minor injuries.
The front part of the car came under the truck – Michael Clarke on the accident
Michael Clarke was a passenger in a car and revealed that the vehicle he was traveling in collided with a semi-trailer and was partially thrown under a truck. He shared this incident on his podcast named Beyond23 Cricket. “The home journey has been interesting to say the least,” Clarke said on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast. “I want to start by saying thank God for the good people in India. That’s why I reached home safely.”
Describing the entire incident, he said that he had fallen asleep after the final and suddenly woke up with shock after the car collided with the trailer. Clark revealed, “I was sleeping. After the game, I fell asleep while traveling. Obviously, I wasn’t driving. Then I woke up and I saw the front of the car was under a truck.”
I survived – Clarke tells how he survived
According to Michael Clark, the driver later told him that the truck’s brake lights were not working. He said, “The driver explained to me that the brake lights on the truck were not working. So my driver hit the truck from behind. Then, it was a big semi-trailer and our car went down.” He added, “The car has definitely been written off.”
Clark was fortunate to escape with minor injuries and no major injuries. The former Australia captain believed that Driver’s legs were broken after being hit on both of his legs. “I came away with some injuries, but I definitely think he hurt his leg a little bit,” Clark said.
BCCI and local people saved Michael Clarke
Michael Clarke said the driver was shocked and concerned because the vehicle belonged to the company he worked for. “I was really worried because he was so scared. It wasn’t his car, he works for the company,” she said. Clark advised him to seek medical help and expressed hope that he would eventually go to the hospital.
Later, he thanked the local people and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for investigating them and taking utmost care of the cricketer and the driver.
“Everyone at the BCCI, everyone there, they are checking him and they are checking me. They have been unreal. So I am very grateful for that,” he said. “It was a complete accident. Such things happen, but for me it was more of a shock because I was in a deep sleep and then when I woke up I saw that I was very close to the bottom of the truck.”
