Mehdi Hassan Miraj admitted to hospital after suffering head injury
Bangladesh team physiotherapist Bayajedul Islam Khan provided an update on Mehidy Hasan Miraz after the captain suffered an injury. He said that after the match, Miraj was taken to the hospital for further examination and observation.
“Mehdi Hasan Miraj got injured during the match today,” Bayjedul Islam Khan said after the game. “He continued to play after being evaluated midway. We have sent him to the hospital to assess the rest of his symptoms and for general observation. He will remain there for the next 24 hours.”
The injury occurred in the 34th over of Bangladesh’s chase when a bouncer from Riley Meredith hit Mirage on the side of his helmet. The Bangladesh captain immediately held his head and went down on his knees in pain.
Medical staff assessed the concussion on the field, while television footage showed Mirage vomiting during treatment. The Australian team doctor also joined the medical team, and a stretcher was brought onto the field before Miraz was back on his feet.
It was unbelievable for Miraz to bat in that position – Taskin Ahmed on Mehdi Hasan Miraz
According to ESPNcricinfo, Miraj Hasan Miraj is now out of immediate danger. However, he will remain under medical observation until Friday as part of standard concussion recovery protocols.
Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed praised Mehidy for continuing to bat despite suffering an injury during a tense run chase against Australia. Taskin said the captain took a bold decision to stay at the crease and guide the team in pressure situations.
“It was incredible for Mirage to bat in that situation,” he said. “I think he immediately decided that if he went, the new batsman might be more likely to make a mistake in that pressure situation.”
Miraj remained unbeaten on 22 off 22 balls and played a vital role in the final stages of the chase. He hit a six off Riley Meredith to ensure Bangladesh’s victory and their first ODI series win over Australia.
