On Wednesday, January 7, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) officially announced the New Zealand national cricket team’s squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
The Blackcaps have been drawn in Group D along with Afghanistan, Canada, South Africa and UAE in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
New Zealand will lose Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson for some matches
The selection committee has announced a very strong squad for the T20 World Cup, with Mitchell Santner at the helm and the presence of many experienced campaigners.
However, the Kiwis will have to be without the services of Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry for a few matches during the tournament. Their partners are due to give birth during the event period and fast bowlers may be allowed to take short-term paternity leave.
Talking about the team, Kiwi head coach Rob Walter congratulated all the players selected. He said:
“First of all, a huge congratulations to all the players selected for this World Cup. World Cups are special and there are few better places to play in than India, the heartbeat of the modern game.
“I’m really pleased with the skill and experience of this team and I think we have a group that can do New Zealand proud.”
