England fast bowler Mark Wood is set to meet a knee specialist in London to evaluate the recurring left knee injury that abruptly ended his Ashes 2025-26 campaign in Australia last month.
Injury nightmare continues as Mark Wood seeks specialist help
Mark Wood was recently ruled out of the five-match Test series in Australia amid the Ashes 2025-26 after his left knee problem flared up once again. He was struggling with this knee for some time. The injury first troubled him during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
After this the senior fast bowler also underwent surgery to fix the problem. Although he returned to action, the knee continued to bother him, and the difficult conditions in Australia made things even worse.

It was clear in the first Ashes Test in Perth that Wood was not feeling comfortable. The Englishman bowled only 11 overs in Perth and looked in pain while running. Because of this, England decided not to include him in the second Test in Brisbane.
With the knee problem flaring up again, Wood’s Ashes campaign ended tragically without playing a proper Test. Later, England lost the Ashes series to Australia 1–4.
Mark Wood will meet a knee specialist, there is a big question on his career
Now, as the Daily Mail reports, Mark Wood is scheduled to meet with a knee specialist in London on Friday (January 16). Fortius Clinic’s renowned knee surgeons, Andy Williams and Simon Ball, who have treated Wood for years, will fully assess the injury, understand the damage, and formulate a clear recovery and rehabilitation plan.
This assessment is also important for Wood’s future, as it will help him understand whether he can continue playing international cricket and how long it may take for him to recover.
When a knee injury ‘finished’ Wood
Wood wrote on Instagram: “Disappointed to be ruled out of the remaining Ashes. After extensive surgery and seven months of hard work and rehabilitation to get back on the Test field, my knee has not healed. None of us expected this. I came here with high hopes of making a big impact. I am extremely disappointed that despite more injections and intensive medical treatment, it has become clear that the inflammation in my knee is worse than feared.”

The bowler further added, “I’m really sorry that I haven’t been able to perform as expected, but it’s not for lack of trying. No matter what happens, I will continue to push my limits to bounce back. It’s been a tough road over the last few months, but I’m determined to give it another fair go. I still believe we can turn things around. Never give up. Come on, England.”

Mark Wood is one of England’s fastest bowlers and a true match-winner. Since making his England debut in 2015, Wood has represented England in all three formats. He has played 38 Tests, taking 119 wickets and bowling at speeds of over 150 kmph.
He represented England in 70 ODIs and took 80 wickets. He was an important part of England’s 2019 World Cup-winning team. Wood has also played 38 T20Is, taking 54 wickets. Despite repeated injuries, his pace, courage and impact make him a special bowler for England.
