A special achievement in a special match of the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup event. South Africa women’s cricket team star, Marizanne Kapp claimed her 100th T20I wicket against Bangladesh women’s cricket team at the prestigious Lord’s cricket ground in London today (June 28).
South Africa currently has to play a match against Bangladesh under any circumstances. If the Proteas are successful in defeating Bangladesh women’s team today, the pressure will be on the Indian women’s cricket team as only the top two teams from Group 1 of the tournament will be allowed to play in the semi-finals.
Marijanne Kapp’s 4 overs could be decisive for South Africa Women in the Women’s T20 World Cup
As of now, Australia, India and South Africa are in the race to book a place in the semi-finals, but only two will be allowed to qualify. For the evening slot, it will be India women’s team against Australia women’s cricket team. The future of the Indian cricket team in the title race could be greatly influenced by the outcome of the South Africa Women vs Bangladesh Women match.
South Africa women’s team is clearly a favorite to register victory over Bangladesh. Marizanne Kapp was effective with the ball. He not only took one wicket, but also deprived the Bangladeshi batsmen from scoring runs as per the standards of T20 cricket. Kapp’s 4 overs are going to play an important role in the game.
During the spell of four overs, Marijane Kapp took the wicket of the opposing team’s opener Zuaria Firdous. Firdous was out on a golden duck on the very first ball of the match. The Protea pacer took one wicket for just 9 runs in four overs, taking his economy rate to 2.25.
Marizanne Kapp’s 100th T20 wicket in a must-win match
Marizanne Kapp completed the 100th T20I wicket landmark as Juaria Firdous was caught off guard. The 36-year-old became the second Proteas woman after Shabnim Ismail to reach 100 T20I wickets, adding another chapter to her incredible career.
After a slow start and losing wickets in crucial parts of the innings, Bangladesh could only manage 117 runs in 20 overs for the loss of five batsmen. To win the match, South Africa will have to score 118 runs in 20 overs.
The pitch could have helped the South African women bowlers
Kapp’s teammate Shabnim Ismail said the surface was good to bowl on as it had good bounce. According to him, he could have got a few more wickets, but he is confident about what he has done so far to win the match.
“Very good surface to bowl on. Good carries. It would have been good to take a few more wickets in the power play, but I think we did a good job. After the last game, we just worked on field placement. I don’t think the bowling was that bad.”
“For us, it’s about execution and planning. Quite confident. We haven’t played our best yet. It’s important for us to get the win first and chase the target,” Shabnim Ismail said during the innings break.
