It is rumored that Justin Langer, the former Australian cricketer who is now an experienced coach, could become England’s Test coach in place of Brendon McCullum, who was removed from the Test team coaching job last week.
Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has welcomed the decision on whether Langer can coach the England national cricket team for the longest format of the game. Justin Langer is considered to be one of the influential coaches who left a positive mark as the former coach of the Australia national cricket team.

If he becomes England coach, it would be a big boost for the Three Lions, feels Marcus Stoinis. Since Brendon McCullum was removed from Test duties, the England cricket team remains without a head coach in the Test format.
As soon as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) removed McCullum from the post, many names were under speculation. Andy Flower, Rahul Dravid, Ravichandran Ashwin and Stephen Fleming were among the names being considered on the ECB’s shortlist as possible successors to Brendon McCullum. Andy Flower was reportedly heavily involved with the board.

According to the latest reports, former Australian cricketer and coach Langer can be appointed as the Test coach of the England men’s cricket team. However, it has not been confirmed yet. Marcus Stoinis, who also heard about the reports involving Langer and the ECB, mentioned that it would be a very positive move by the English cricket board if they appoint Langer.
Stoinis told Sky Sports Cricket, “I think if he wants to do it and if English cricket wants him, I think he’ll do a great job. To be honest, his work ethic, that hasn’t changed since he was a player. I was lucky enough to be taken under his wing when I was younger and train with him as a young player.”

Recalling the days when he was under the veteran coach, the Australian all-rounder expressed the coaching ethics of Justin Langer. As he trained under the former cricketer, Stoinis is still impressed with how the coach used to take out the best from the players one by one during the training sessions.
Stoinis said, “To be honest, his work ethic, that hasn’t changed since he was a player. I was lucky enough when I was younger and I was brought under his tutelage and trained with him as a young player… I was feeding him balls on the bowling machine when he was playing and things like that. It hasn’t changed for him.”

Langer is currently associated as the head coach of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and in The Hundred Franchise League, he serves as the head coach of the Manchester Super Giants. Manchester Super Giants will begin their 2026 The Hundred season on July 23 against London Spirits at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
