Marcus Stoinis hit 5 sixes in one over, Steve Smith surprised in MLC 2026

Seattle Orcas captain Marcus Stoinis launched a sensational attack by hitting five sixes in a single over against Washington Freedom during the 2026 Major League Cricket season. The Australian all-rounder finished with six sixes in a blistering lower-order cameo at the Oakland Coliseum on Friday (IST).

Marcus Stoinis’ explosive hitting helped Seattle Orcas post a mammoth score of 227/6 in 20 overs in the ninth match of the ongoing tournament. A late cameo from the captain provided a perfect end to the innings, while Shimron Hetmyer scored an unbeaten 79 off 33 balls with the help of two fours and nine sixes.

Marcus Stoinis hit five sixes in one over against Washington Freedom

Marcus Stoinis struggled to find his timing after reaching the crease and scored just four runs from his first six balls. However, the Seattle Orcas captain changed gears in the death overs.

During the 17th over, Marcus Stoinis hit four consecutive sixes on the first four balls against medium fast bowler Ian Holland. Washington Freedom captain Steve Smith looked frustrated as Stoinis continued to clear the ropes with ease.

Holland’s variations failed to trouble the Australians, who repeatedly aimed straight lines with clean and powerful hits. Holland finally defeated Stoinis on the fifth ball with a slower ball which hit his body with a dot ball.

Marcus Stoinis responded immediately and scored 30 runs by hitting the fifth six of his over with the last ball over the sightscreen. After conceding only 19 runs in his first three overs, he took 3 for 49 in four overs.

Tim Seifert and Shimron Hetmyer lead Seattle Orcas to 22–7

Tim Seifert got the Seattle Orcas off to a great start with an aggressive power play performance. His aggressive strokeplay helped the team reach 59/0 in the first six overs and set a strong platform for the middle order.

Shayan Jahangir scored 22 runs in 23 balls before he was dismissed by Marco Johnson. Matthew Britzke then kept the momentum going by making useful contributions by adding 58 runs with Seifert.

Shimron Hetmyer took charge in the final overs and remained unbeaten on 79 runs in just 33 balls. The left-handed batsman hit two fours and nine sixes at a strike rate of 239.39 and put Washington Freedom under immense pressure.

Hetmyer ended the innings brilliantly by dismissing Jack Edwards in the final over. He hit three consecutive sixes off the last three balls to take Seattle Orcas to 227/6.

Marco Johnson briefly slowed Seattle’s scoring during the 18th over, dismissing Marcus Stoinis and Dasun Shanaka for just nine runs. However, the Orcas made a strong comeback in the final two overs.

Hetmyer and Ali Shaikh added 38 runs in the last 12 balls to give Seattle a spectacular victory. Their partnership pushed the total past 220 and capped an effective batting performance.

The Seattle Orcas hit 23 sixes during the innings, the second most in Major League Cricket history. Only the San Francisco Unicorns have hit more sixes than that, with 28 against the Washington Freedom at the start of the 2026 season.

Seattle’s total of 227/6 also became the second highest score in franchise history. Their highest score is 238/7, recorded against MI New York during the 2025 MLC season.
