Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, match number 55, was between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC). Young Madhav Tiwary was named player of the match in his first game of IPL. It was a reverse game as this time DC got the best of Punjab while chasing the target of 211 runs with one over to spare.

Akshar Patel won the toss and decided to bowl first. They made a fresh start, making five changes, including Kuldeep Yadav, Pathum Nissanka, Nitish Rana, Karun Nair and T Natarajan in place of Sahil Parakh, Abhishek Porel, David Miller, Auqib Nabi and Madhav Tiwary. PBKS also made one change, with Ben Dwarshius replacing Lockie Ferguson, who was ruled out with injury.

After being asked to bat first, Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya started strongly, the former being aggressive, scoring most of the runs during the power play and reaching 50 runs in just 24 balls. PBKS scored 72/0 during the power play. Prabhasimran could not make an impact and returned after scoring 18 runs.

Then, debutant Madhav Tiwary bowled brilliantly in the middle overs, taking two wickets in his first match, dismissing the big wicket of Priyansh Arya, his first, and also dismissing Cooper Connolly for 38 runs. Shreyas Iyer and Cooper Connolly made a partnership of 83 runs. Shreyas played an inning of 59 runs and remained unbeaten and the score was 210/5 in 20 overs.

Akshar Patel played captaincy innings

Capitals had the worst start, losing their top three of Abhishek Porel, KL Rahul and Sahil Parakh with the score at 33/3 inside the power play. DC captain Axar Patel came out on top and stitched a short partnership with Tristan Stubbs, who scored only 12 runs.

Axar and David Miller then put on a 61-run partnership, before Axar returned to the dugout after scoring a half-century off 28 balls. Akshar Patel was out after scoring 56 runs in 30 balls. He scored 51 runs in 28 balls before being dismissed by Ben Dwarshis.

First of all I would like to thank the management-Madhav Tiwari

Madhav Tiwari and Ashutosh Sharma gave the final touches. His scores of 18* off 8 balls and 24* off 10 balls sealed the game for the Capitals and it was the fourth consecutive defeat for Shreyas Iyer’s team. Madhav Tiwari was named player of the match for his all-round performance.

After winning the POTM, Madhav Tiwari said, “First of all I want to thank the management for giving me this opportunity. I am really happy to come out on the winning side. The mindset is always that if things are not in your hands, you work in the practice sessions.”

“I have worked a lot on my bowling, I have worked on my range hitting. I would say 100 per cent bowler, 100 per cent batsman. The wicket was helping the length ball. I was trying to mix it with the wide ball and the short ball.”

Madhav finally said, “I was prepared, considering the conditions where the fast bowlers were getting help, was lucky to bowl four overs for the team. Our batting coach Bailey said you have the power, you have the technique, don’t try to overhit the ball.”
