Delhi Capitals might not want this after the excellent performance of their batsmen at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. South Africa’s great fast bowler Lungi Ngidi is suffering from a serious head injury.
Delhi Capitals came into this game looking for a win late in the contest and were looking to finish in the top 4 of the league points table. Their batsmen did a remarkable job and helped DC post the seventh highest score in IPL history.
Dynamic opener KL Rahul scored the third-highest individual score by a batsman in the history of the competition and laid the foundation for a big total by sharing a 220-run stand for the second wicket with Nitish Rana.
Lungi Ngidi was taken away in an ambulance as the South African player was unable to get to his feet after suffering a tragic head injury
Punjab Kings got off to a good start while chasing the big target and Priyansh Arya was once again in charge in the powerplay. To rein them in, DC captain Axar Patel inserted himself into the attack in the third over of the game.
After hitting a boundary on him, Priyansh attempted to top-edge a ball straight over the bowler’s head. Lungi Ngidi, running back, failed to assess the catch, and in attempting to complete the catch, hit his head after colliding with the hard outfield at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
When the bowler failed to stand on his feet after the incident, the physio arrived immediately. An ambulance had to be called inside the ground to take the big South African player off the field in a stretcher.
Dushmantha Chameera may replace Lungi Ngidi as concussion substitute
Lungi Ngidi clearly didn’t look to be in the best shape to return, at least for the remainder of this game. So they will need someone as a concussion replacement, and for that they will need a player as an equivalent replacement.
This will leave Delhi Capitals with two options of Dushmantha Chameera and Mitchell Starc, who can replace Lungi Ngidi as foreign fast bowlers. With Mitchell Starc not available to play yet, Dushmantha Chameera becomes the obvious choice for the role.
He was also seen in the field for Axar Patel’s over but was later replaced by Vipraj Nigam after there was no confirmation on replacing Lungi Ngidi as a substitute.
Priyansh Arya hit two sixes off Axar Patel after being dropped by Lungi Ngidi.
