The Hundred is a unique tournament organized by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). It is the only cricket league in the world that uses the 100-ball cricket format. The Hundred has eight teams, seven of which are based in England and one in Wales. A franchise named London Spirit has announced its captain in the form of Liam Livingstone.

Liam Livingstone has been one of England’s finest all-rounders in the T20I setup. The English cricketer has experience playing in various franchise leagues around the world and also has some leadership experience, as he led the national team in the ODI format in 2024. This is a good opportunity for Liam Livingstone to change things for the franchise.

I’m really looking forward to leading London Spirit – Liam Livingstone

Liam said after taking up the leadership role: “I’m really looking forward to leading the London Spirit at Lord’s this summer. It’s an iconic ground, and with the biggest crowds in the country, I know the fans will create a special atmosphere for every match. There’s a lot of talent throughout the squad and I want us to make some history this summer. I can’t wait to get started.”

Liam Livingstone was named Most Valuable Player (MVP), Player of the Tournament in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2021. He helped his team Birmingham Phoenix reach the final in the same year. He has been associated with the franchise for the last five editions of the tournament and captained the team in last year’s campaign.

He will lead from the front – Andy Flower on Liam Livingstone as captain

London Spirit head coach, Andy Flower, said: “Liam is a fantastic person to work with both on and off the field. I’ve known him since he and I were both with the England Lions. Signing him to London Spirit was one of the first things we wanted to do because we knew how important he would be to what we’re doing at Lord’s this summer.”

“Liam’s improvement and determination to succeed is fundamental to what we want to build at London Spirit. He will lead from the front: of that I have no doubt.” Last year, London Spirit finished 7th in the 8-team league tournament, losing five and winning only three games. This season, they will try to change their fortunes and win their first title.
