Bangladesh team physiotherapist Bayajedul Islam Khan has confirmed that wicketkeeper-batsman Liton Das has been ruled out of the remaining ODIs against Zimbabwe. He said Liton has not recovered from his hamstring injury, forcing the team management to drop him from the ongoing three-match series.
Liton, who missed Bangladesh’s 25-run defeat in the first ODI on July 6, will return to Dhaka for rehabilitation ahead of a busy international schedule. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has named left-handed batsman Pervez Hossain Emon as his replacement for the remaining two matches to be held in Harare on July 9 and 11.
Liton Das ruled out of Zimbabwe ODI due to injury
Bangladesh has suffered a big blow with Liton Das being ruled out of the remaining ODI matches against Zimbabwe. The visitors trail 0-1 in the three-match series after being bowled out for 116 while chasing a target of 142 in the opening match.
Bangladesh team physiotherapist Bayajedul Islam Khan said Liton is still recovering from a hamstring injury and has failed his latest fitness test. He confirmed that the team management has decided not to risk the experienced batsman with two matches remaining in the series.
He said, “Litton missed the first ODI and is still not match-fit. He had a fitness test today and the results were not satisfactory. With consecutive ODIs coming up, we don’t think he will be able to progress enough to play any role in the series.”
Pervez Hossain Amon replaces Liton Das in Bangladesh team
Left-handed opening batsman Parvez Hossain Imon has joined the Bangladesh squad for the remaining two ODIs. The team management is hopeful that they can strengthen the batting unit after a poor performance in the first match at Harare Sports Club.
Bangladesh struggled badly in the opening ODI, with only three batsmen reaching double figures during the chase. The team will now try to level the series by performing better batting in the second ODI.
The management is also focusing on Liton’s long-term fitness ahead of the upcoming series against Australia, South Africa and India. This wicketkeeper-batsman is also expected to not play in the T20 series against Zimbabwe.
Bangladesh looking to bounce back after disappointing start
Liton Das reached Zimbabwe after a good ODI series against Australia. He played a key role in Bangladesh’s 2-1 series win and scored an unbeaten 58 in the third ODI in Mirpur.
Liton was affected throughout the tour by injury. He was initially selected for the one-off Test against Zimbabwe, but withdrew before the match and was replaced by Mahidul Islam Ankon.
Bangladesh have struggled in both Test and ODI formats on this tour. They lost the only Test by an innings and 85 runs before suffering a 25-run defeat in the opening ODI.
