Bangladesh T20I captain Liton Das is now embroiled in a major dispute with the Bangladesh Cricket Board over the sudden dropping of a player from the team. While the captain demands some clarity for himself and coach Phil Simmons, the chief selector has his own ways of going about the job.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has been facing serious troubles recently as a few weeks ago, one of their senior female cricketers alleged that she was sexually harassed by senior members of the board, and now the men’s T20I captain has revealed some ugly truths.
Current Bangladesh T20I captain Liton Das has revealed that the selection committee is dropping players from the team without the knowledge of the captain and the team coach. He also shared that his role in team selection is minimal.
Liton Das stunned by Shamim Hussain’s sudden insult
Liton Das has recently expressed his dissatisfaction with the Bangladesh selectors for dropping Shamim Hossain from the squad for the first two T20 matches against Ireland. Chief selector Ghazi Ashraf Hossain had announced his replacement in the middle order as Mahidul Islam Ankon.
“I think it would be better if [Shamim] Was in the team. But it’s not my call, [it is] “It is completely the decision of the selectors,” Liton said as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.
“I don’t know why, but the selectors dropped Shamim without giving us notice. I know a captain would know which player would be in the team and which player would be out of the team. I don’t see any reason behind dropping Shamim. It would have been better if he was in the team,” he said, claiming that neither he nor coach Phil Simmons were informed about the decision.

Das said, “It is disappointing for Shamim to be out of there.” He said, “As a captain, I cannot say anything other than expressing my regret to Shamim.” I don’t expect all 15 players in my team to perform at the same level. Liton Das spoke openly on the instructions to have minimum authority on team selection
The Bangladesh captain further revealed that the selection panel and the board told him that despite being the captain of the national team and leading them successfully in recent times, he would have little role in team selection.
“The selection panel and the board have told me that whatever team they have chosen, I have to work fully with them,” Litton said. “I can’t say anything about which players I want or don’t want. I have known for a long time that a captain has a plan to organize the team. Recently, I have been informed that my job is to deliver some good performances off the field. However, he said that despite such conditions on his leadership, he would still lead the Bangladesh team.
“I wouldn’t say it’s outrageous, but I think the captain and the coach should be informed. We don’t know anything about it [the selection]If the same thing happens during the World Cup, I will try to implement it with the team to the best of my ability,” he concluded,
BCB chief selectors responded to Liton on Shamim Hussain’s non-selection
Shamim Hussain, the player who has been dropped from the T20I squad against Ireland, has scored only one double-digit score in the last few T20I innings, which might have heralded his neglect.
“We had a brief meeting with the captain and coach before the Bangladesh squad was announced for the Ireland T20. When we asked his opinion about Shamim Hossain, Liton Das told us that he wants Shamim in the team against Ireland. He also told us that he has spoken to the coach [Simmons]Who said that he wants the same batsmen in the next T20 team who played against West Indies,” the BCB chief selector revealed.
“After discussion with Hasibul Hussain [another selector]We decided to drop Shamim from the team. We thought that we will announce the team for the first two matches so that if we win the series by then, we can do some experiments in the third T20.
Referring to what Liton Das said during his press conference, Ghazi said, “The selectors do not always need to agree with the captain and the coach while taking selection decisions. We do not have to take any permission. We are accountable to the board.”
