England all-rounder Liam Livingstone has criticized England Cricket Board (ECB) managing director Rob and head coach Brendon McCullum. Livingstone said he does not miss playing for England after being dropped a year ago, saying that once players are dropped, no one cares about them.
Livingstone played his last England match during the 2025 Champions Trophy. He scored 88 runs in six innings at an average of 14.67. In 2025, he scored 74 runs in five T20Is and took one wicket at an economy rate of 10.16. In IPL 2025, he scored 112 runs for RCB at an average of 16.00 and strike rate of 133.33.
They said they wanted to try someone else – Liam Livingstone
In an interview with ESPNcricinfo, Liam Livingstone expressed disappointment with the current leadership group. He revealed a lack of communication from Robb and the selection committee. Livingstone was dropped from the team before the home series against West Indies in May last year.
The all-rounder also said that head coach Brendon McCullum informed him through a brief phone call. He said the conversation lasted less than a minute, giving him very few answers about his future.
“I don’t think it even got to a minute. I asked why; they said they wanted to try someone else. That was the Hawks thing. The righty didn’t make contact and Brookie sent me a message,” Livingstone told ESPNcricinfo.
If you’re not in, no one cares about you – Liam Livingstone
Livingstone expressed his disappointment at the managing director ignoring him. He said the lack of communication confirmed his belief that players are treated poorly when they fall out of favor with the national team management.
“It probably sums up that group as a collective. Casey didn’t say anything – said I’ll talk to you in the summer. I actually rang him one day, and he said he was busy at a test camp in Loughborough. And then I didn’t hear from him until the end of September.”
“It was an eye-opening experience about the group and the system: if you’re in it, you’re in it, and if you’re not in it, nobody cares about you. It gave me peace of mind that my cricket is going to be more entertaining in the future.”
Liam Livingstone is in high demand in global franchise leagues
Less than 18 months ago, Liam Livingstone captained England in an ODI series against the West Indies. The right-handed batsman scored an unbeaten 124 in his only win. However, he could only score 88 runs in his next six ODI innings, which led to his being dropped from the team.
Livingstone remains a highly sought-after player in franchise leagues. Sunrisers Hyderabad signed him for ₹13 crore in the IPL 2026 auction. He was selected by London Spirit for more than $650,000 in The Hundred.
Sunrisers Hyderabad will begin their campaign against defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday, March 28 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. It is still uncertain whether Livingstone will be part of the playing eleven or not.
