After RR failed to qualify for the IPL 2026 final, Rajasthan Royals head coach and director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara lauded Vaibhav Suryavanshi for a stellar season. He believes that the teenage batting sensation has shown qualities that are rarely seen in a player of his age.
The Sri Lankan legend also feels that the left-hander is ready for the international stage and is confident that his understudy will soon get an India call-up after showing incredible consistency and maturity during the tournament.

Emphasizing that Vaibhav’s case was different, Sangakkara clarified that Rajasthan Royals are no longer just focusing on developing young players but they are now focused on building a team capable of winning titles.
Kumar Sangakkara said in the post-match press conference, “You don’t know whether someone is ready until he plays, and with what Vaibhav has shown against some of the best bowlers in the world, I think he is ready to take on any challenge that comes your way, and I’m sure he will get that call-up very soon.”

Meanwhile, Sangakkara also revealed that Rajasthan Royals have a clear development plan for Vaibhav Suryavanshi and we are careful not to put extra pressure on him. The coach shared that the franchise wants him to continue playing fearlessly with an independent mind.
The RR coach further explained, “I think we have a good plan around him. We don’t clutter his mind too much; he comes to all our team meetings, he contributes, he listens and he does a lot of homework. He practices well, and he also reads the balls; he watches videos and prepares himself really well. So, we don’t want to put any unnecessary thoughts in his mind; I think one That clear mind, battling that courage, is what we want to see from him.”

Rajasthan Royals now plan to keep a close eye on Vaibhav’s progress even during the off-season. The coaching and medical staff will draw up a detailed plan for his development and Sangakkara said the training camp and practice sessions will help him continue to improve in the coming months.
He signed off by saying, “We will sit with our medical team and then see whatever he needs and then support him; we will run our camps, and he will get ample opportunities to practice with us in Nagpur. So, we will keep a very close eye on not just Vaibhav but all our players.”
