Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are reportedly on the lookout for a quality spinner ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) mini-auction, which is expected to take place in December.
SRH captain Pat Cummins had sent a message last year to express interest in bringing wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav into the team.
Kuldeep has been in exceptional form across all formats. He was the best performer for India in the Asia Cup 2025, finishing as the leading wicket-taker with 17 wickets in seven matches.
The left-arm spinner is currently part of the T20I squad in Australia, and the opening match in Canberra was abandoned due to rain.
Pat Cummins messaged Kuldeep Yadav last year – Rohit Juglan
RepSports journalist Rohit Juglan revealed on his YouTube channel that Sunrisers Hyderabad is looking for a quality spinner ahead of the next IPL season.
Juglan said that Pat Cummins had approached Kuldeep Yadav last year to discuss the possibility of him joining SRH. He also said that the franchise is still looking for a bowler who is capable of bowling four reliable overs.
“SRH was looking for a spinner, as I mentioned earlier. Last year, Pat Cummins messaged Kuldeep Yadav. There were discussions between Cummins and Kuldeep about whether he was interested in joining. Zeeshan looks like a very good option,” Juglan said.
He said, “He plays for Meerut Mavericks in the UP T20 league. Zeeshan is definitely a strong contender. However, I still believe that SRH are looking for someone who can bowl important four overs with quality. As far as batting is concerned, I don’t think they will release Ishan Kishan.”
Kuldeep Yadav has been a key player for Delhi Capitals in recent IPL seasons
Kuldeep Yadav has been a vital part of the Delhi Capitals (DC) setup since IPL 2022. His consistent performances over the years have made him one of the most reliable spinners in the league.
Delhi bought Kuldeep for ₹2 crore in the 2022 mega auction. Ahead of the IPL 2025 season, the franchise showed great faith in the left-arm wrist spinner by retaining him for a hefty price of ₹13.25 crore.
Kuldeep took 15 wickets in 14 matches at an economy rate of 7.08 and an average of 24.07, with his best performance being 3/22. His control and wicket-taking ability have cemented his place as a key member of the DC bowling unit.
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s IPL 2025 campaign was disappointing
Sunrisers Hyderabad had a disappointing IPL 2025 campaign, finishing sixth in the table after finishing runners-up last year. The team’s inconsistency with both bat and ball proved costly, knocking them out of the playoff race.
While SRH’s batting lineup still appears strong and capable of improving, their bowling unit struggled throughout the season. Mohammed Shami’s tremendous performance may prompt the franchise to consider a trade or release him ahead of the IPL 2026 season.
The upcoming edition will be crucial for the 2016 champions as they look to rebuild and address key weaknesses in their team.
