Rishabh Pant’s return to Delhi Capitals marks the end of his short and disappointing stint with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The Indian wicketkeeper-batsman joined LSG for a record-breaking ₹27 crore in the IPL 2025 auction, making him the most expensive player in the league history.
However, Pant decided to move on after two difficult seasons with both the bat and captaincy. Delhi Capitals brought back their former captain and long-time star for a low salary of ₹15 crore. He played for the franchise from 2016 to 2024 and became one of the biggest faces of the team. During that period, he played 111 matches for DC and also captained the team in four seasons.
On the other hand, Kuldeep Yadav’s Delhi journey ended after five successful seasons where the spinner took 72 wickets in 65 matches and became one of the most reliable bowlers of the team. He will now start a new chapter with Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2026.

Soon after the official announcement of the trade, fans noticed that Kuldeep had liked a social media reel criticizing Delhi Capitals and their decision to bring back Rishabh Pant. The video questioned the franchise’s strategy and suggested that the team management was once again going back to the old formula instead of creating something new.
Reel compared Delhi’s move to Punjab Kings’ approach of building a new setup around new leadership. It also mocked DC’s decision to reunite with Pant despite the team’s struggles under his captaincy last season in the league.

Interestingly, after his return to Delhi Capitals was officially confirmed, Rishabh Pant kept his farewell message to Lucknow Supergiants short and simple. The wicketkeeper-batsman shared LSG’s goodbye post on his Instagram story and wrote, “Thank you team.”
Notably, Pant has been dropped from the Indian team in the white-ball format due to his poor form with the bat. He was also stripped of the vice-captaincy of the Test team.
