Speaking to PTI, Srikkanth chose India’s young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi And expressed unwavering confidence that Suryavanshi has the qualities required not only to succeed across all formats but also to help restore the appeal of Test cricket.

The former opening batsman praised the youngster’s fearless mentality and hunger for big scores, suggesting that his aggressive instincts are balanced by the patience required for long innings.

“What I like about Vaibhav Suryavanshi is that he has the hunger to score runs and the hunger to dominate. Also, he can stay in there and play. If he moves on from T20 cricket to ODI cricket and then to Test cricket, and if he moves on to Test cricket, which he will, I am sure you will see a revival of Test cricket.” Srikanth said.

He also highlighted the excitement that Sooryavanshi has generated among the audience and compared its growing popularity to the magnetic attraction enjoyed by cricket’s biggest superstars.

“You need that kind of cricketer today. People turn on the TV just to watch Sooryavanshi. I turn on the TV just to watch Sooryavanshi. He has created such an aura around himself. And that is something amazing.” the former India opening batsman added.

Srikkanth’s comments underline his belief that an engaging personality and entertaining batting style can play a major role in attracting spectators back to the traditional format.
