In an important development for West Indies cricket, The Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced its 15-member squad for the upcoming two-testing series in India, which is part of the new ICC World Test Championship Chakra. The series starting from October 2, will be the first distant stability for the team in the new WTC cycle, and their first Test tour since 2018.
Notable inclusion and omission of Krigag Brathwaite from India Testing Series
Under the leadership of Roston Chase, the squad has several significant changes from the team that have recently faced Australia. The most notable lapse is former captain Krigag Brathwaite, an experienced of 100 Test Caps. The exclusion of Brathwaite comes when he exited XI to play for the final test against Australia earlier this year. The missing is also Casey Katy, Johann and Micile Louis.
Especially to increase the batting lineup against the Indian spin attack, the selectors have recalled tagnerine chandpall and alik Athanaz. Chanderpall, who last played an examination in January 2024, could make John Campbell a partner at the top of the order. Meanwhile, the left-arrow spinner Khari Pierre has obtained his first Test call-up after a brilliant performance at the West Indies Championship, where he topped the chart with 41 wickets at an average of 13.56. He will serve as another expert spinner with the vice-captain Joomme Warrican. The squad also includes promising Celon Anderson, who maintains its place.
West Indies Test Squad composition and series details
The 15-Massive squad has a mixture of experience and emerging talent. The Batting Group includes Captain Roston Chase, John Campbell, Tagnarin Chandpall, Justin Greaves, Shai Hope, Tevin Imlach, Brandon King, Kelon Anderson and Alik Athanaz. The pace bowling contingent is combined with Alzari Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Anderson Philip and Jayden Seal. The spin attack will be headed by the vice-captain Joomal Warrican, which will support Khari Pierre and Chase. Gudkesh Moti has been rested to manage his charge before the ICC T20 World Cup in February and March next year.
The team is scheduled to depart Caribbean on 22 September and reach Ahmedabad on 24 September. The first test will be held at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, while the second will be held at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi. Interestingly, only four players from the current squad, chase, hope, alzari and Warrican were part of the West Indies team, who visited India last time in 2018-19. The two-testing chain is an important part of the West Indies campaign in the new World Test Championship cycle after losing 3–0 to Australia.
