As per BCCI and IPL rules, all foreign players are insured and they get 50 percent of their payment from insurance. Normally, when foreign players get injured after joining the camp, they are paid by the franchises, but in the case of Mustafizur Rahman, the Rs 9.2 crore player will not be paid a single penny by KKR.
Mustafizur Rahman’s sycophancy of Bangladesh cricket star has already given rise to several controversies in world cricket and has also complicated the relations between the two boards, BCCI and BCB. An angry BCB has asked ICC to shift its matches in the T20 World Cup to Sri Lanka.
Mustafizur Rahman entered the IPL mini-auction with a base price of Rs 2 crore and was eventually bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 9.20 crore after their intense bidding war with Chennai Super Kings.
IPL players’ salaries are insured
According to the latest information about the salary given to IPL players, it has been revealed that the players’ salaries are insured. Especially for foreign players, they get paid even if they are not stars in the season but are out due to injuries sustained after joining the designated team.
“The salaries of all IPL players are insured. For overseas international players, generally the franchise pays if he gets injured after joining the camp or during the tournament.
“Usually up to 50 per cent is paid through insurance,” an IPL source told PTI on condition of anonymity. This is better for India’s injured centrally contracted cricketers, who are generally paid by the BCCI.
However, given the current structure of insurance, there is no scope for financial compensation for Mustafizur Rahman, as he has been released even before joining the team with the Knight Riders.
How much money will KKR have to pay Mustafizur Rahman despite failure in IPL?
Bangladesh star Mustafizur is unlikely to receive any financial compensation if he is released by the KKR franchise, as his case does not fall under the standard clause of the insurance. His release was not linked to injuries or any other cricket-related reason, hence, as per the contract, KKR is not obliged to pay him any amount.
“In case of an insurance claim, this current situation is not covered, so KKR is not under any official obligation to pay a single penny.
Despite being a high-value acquisition and having no disciplinary or professional infractions, Mustafizur would still be quite unlucky to walk away empty-handed.
Mustafizur Rahman will file a legal complaint against BCCI for ignoring me in IPL.
In another big revelation, the source mentioned that Mustafizur Rahman can choose the legal route against BCCI and KKR to get any compensation, but in such circumstances, his chances of returning to the league in future will be ruined.
The source said, “It is unfortunate, but Mustafiz does not have much option but to take the legal route and the IPL also comes under the jurisdiction of Indian law. No foreign cricketer would want to go through this or take the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) route.”
He said that since the India-Bangladesh dispute does not appear to be as harsh as the India-Pakistan political scenario, it would be wise for Mustafiz not to take any legal action and ruin his chances of returning to one of the highest-paying franchise league tournaments in the world.
