Kane Williamson’s retirement was huge for New Zealand and the entire cricket world, as it officially ended the era of the ‘Fav Four’ – Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Steve Smith and Williamson. Many cricketers have grown up watching and idolizing Kane Williamson, as he was one of the finest cricketers of modern cricket.

It was an emotional moment for Rachin Ravindra when Williamson informed him about his decision to step down from the post. In a recent video on talkSport Cricket, Ravindra expressed that when he learned about the retirement of the cricketer he admired the most, his heart was overflowing with emotions.

Yes, it was quite emotional: Rachin Ravindra

The New Zealand cricket team’s top-order batsman says he had just gathered in the dressing room and Kane Williamson told him about his final decision to retire. Rachin Ravindra became so emotional that he was about to cry.

Even when he was describing that moment, his emotions spoke louder than words. For Ravindra, Kane Williamson was a pioneer and maverick for him for a long time.

“Yeah, it was quite emotional, I think, and we just gathered, literally gathered in the team room, and then he told us, and it was quite emotional. I don’t know, I felt like I was going to cry, but it’s not even about me, you know. It’s just because he’s been the leading, you want to say, maverick for us for so long, and he’s done that since 2010,” the batting all-rounder said.

Ravindra is happy that Kane Williamson has achieved a lot in his career

Ravindra also mentioned Ross Taylor, another legend of New Zealand cricket, who served the team for a long time across formats. For 26-year-old Taylor Williamson, he has been a hero since childhood.

“And I, literally throughout my teenage years, I was watching him. He was, you know, a batsman, and him and Ross Taylor, actually. So, I think, it was definitely emotional, I think,” he said.

Kane Williamson retired as one of the most famous cricketers in modern cricket across the top cricket playing nations, which is a great achievement for him on an individual basis. Rachin Ravindra firmly believes that the legacy Williamson has left will be celebrated for years to come.

“And I’m obviously very happy for Kane and the timing of his decision. He saw the guy go under the radar, right, and be very humble, and what he’s achieved. And he’s done it in his own way, which is nice to see, and I’m sure his career will be celebrated for many years,” said Rachin Ravindra.

Williamson ends his career just short of 10,000 Test runs

Williamson retired at the age of 35 after playing 110 Test matches for the country. In one hundred and ten matches and 195 innings, the right-handed batsman scored 9,515 runs at an average of 54.06. Thirty-three centuries and thirty-eight half-centuries are testament to the patience, composure, temperament and skill that he displayed over the years with the Blackcaps.
