KKR assistant coach leaks Cameron Green’s batting position ahead of IPL 2026

KKR have abundant options at the top of the batting order; So, their biggest challenge will be to figure out what their batting order will look like. They will have options, including former opening batsmen, some dynamic overseas batsmen and finally an Australian all-rounder.

Kolkata Knight Riders returned to the powerplay in 2024, when Phil Salt opened for KKR along with Sunil Narine. However, Narine himself failed the following season, and KKR could not find a suitable replacement for Salt, as both QDK and Rahmanullah Gurbaz failed at the top.

He picked new players like Finn Allen and Tim Seifert, two new players in the KKR dugout who will play important roles in 2026. Both the Kiwi openers played a big role for the White Ferns in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup.

KKR assistant coach reveals Cameron Green’s batting position

However in a major turn of events, Kolkata Knight Riders are yet to finalize their batting order for the upcoming season of IPL. Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson was appointed the assistant coach of the KKR team and now he has made a big revelation.

Responding to a question about Cameron Green on India Today, he said that the franchise is fortunate to have players who show world-class batting talent. The biggest challenge is to choose the right combination for the team.

“Obviously, with Cameron Green, the quality of cricketer he is as an all-rounder means wherever he gets the opportunity, he makes the most of it,” the former Australian said in the interview.

Shane Watson praises KKR’s world-class talent pool

Kolkata Knight Riders will indeed have a big dilemma on the batting front, as they have too many batsmen in the same position. It is believed that they have Allen, Seifert, Ajinkya Rahane and Sunil Narine, who can be the starting options for them.

“The beauty of the Kolkata Knight Riders team is the number of incredible, world-class batting options we have. It’s an embarrassment of riches in terms of the caliber of players and figuring out where they all fit in.

“That will be the biggest challenge for the leaders of this organization – getting those combinations right from the first game and making adjustments as the tournament progresses,” Watson said at a press conference at the Eden Gardens, graced by JioStar.

Additionally, Rovman Powell could be the rescue agent for KKR in the lower order, being a power-hitting replacement for Andre Russell. Rinku Singh will have to play an important role for them in the coming season.

“We have some seriously powerful, world-class players with a mix of experience and youthful energy. It’s exciting to see how they perform during the tournament,” he said.

KKR will have to struggle in the bowling department

Kolkata Knight Riders rely heavily on their foreign players in the batting department; However, they have to be very strategic in their pitch preparation. The pitch at Eden Gardens is often favorable for batting.

However, the Knight Riders might be struggling in their bowling department, as they lack options in that department as well. They will not have Mustafizur Rahman and Harshit Rana. The inclusion of Sri Lankan fast bowler Mathisha Pathirana will also remain a major uncertainty.

In his absence, it will be difficult for Kolkata to handle their bowling. Varun Chakraborty’s form has also been a matter of serious concern since the T20 World Cup 2026. He will also not have a good fifth bowling option.
