Kevin Pietersen leaves Delhi Capitals a few days before IPL 2026, leaves mentor role

Former England great Kevin Pietersen, who was the mentor of the Delhi Capitals team in IPL 2025, has resigned from his role ahead of the upcoming IPL season. However, the great England player has claimed that he will be a part of the IPL through some other means.

Delhi Capitals made a massive change in its coaching unit ahead of IPL 2025. He dropped former Australian great Ricky Ponting and replaced him with Hemang Badani, while appointing English legend Kevin Pietersen as the team mentor.

Under his guidance, Delhi made a great start to the tournament with consecutive wins, but ultimately could not qualify for the knockout stage after losing several games, resulting in them finishing below Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans.

The former RCB great, who has also played some promising years for Delhi Capitals in the IPL, has made it clear through his ex-post that he wants to step down as the mentor of Delhi Capitals for the upcoming season of IPL starting from March 28.

He explained that he was not willing to put in the time required for such a role and hence, would not be playing the role. He wished the cricketers of the team all the best for their upcoming campaign.

He also claimed that he will be a part of the commentary team in IPL and called it one of the most prestigious leagues in the world which he cannot stop himself from watching.

Delhi Capitals will keep an eye on new players in the 2026 team

Delhi Capitals’ auction was probably one of the best in the Mini-Auction 2026, where they picked up a lot of big names at nominal prices and made some useful futuristic investments. One of them was South African finisher David Miller, who was included at his base price.
