Kevin Pietersen joins elite list after ICC Hall of Fame recognition

Kevin Pietersen has been one of the finest cricketers for England across all formats. The former England batsman was inducted into the Hall of Fame on Saturday. This is a historic moment for Kevin Pietersen. She received the prestigious award along with Sourav Ganguly and Anjum Chopra at an event in Edinburgh.

The prestigious ICC Cricket Hall of Fame currently inducts 34 England cricketers, representing both men’s and women’s international formats across different eras.

Kevin Pietersen celebrated induction into the ICC Hall of Fame as a wonderful honor and the highest honor a player can receive. He admitted that it would take some time for the achievement to be fully established.

Kevin Pietersen: “It’s a huge honor to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. It’s really humbling to be recognized in this way and to see my name alongside so many of the greats of the game. It’s the highest recognition a cricketer can receive, and I know it will take some time to fully achieve it.”

“I have been privileged to play in all three formats of the game, and I look back on my career with great pride and satisfaction. I would like to thank the ICC for this wonderful honour, as well as my family, teammates, coaches and everyone who has supported me throughout my journey. This recognition is one I will always cherish.”

Kevin Pietersen’s career

The honor recognizes his illustrious career, during which he scored over 13,797 international runs and led England to their first ICC World Twenty20 title in 2010. He became the 34th England player to be inducted into this exclusive list of the ICC Hall of Fame.

In the shortest format, his average was close to 38 with a strike rate of over 141, but in ODI and Test cricket, his average was over 40 (40.73) and 47.28 respectively. In August 2018, the ECB named him in England’s best Test XI in honor of the country’s 1000th Test match.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah said he was overwhelmed to announce the latest players inducted into the Hall of Fame. Apart from Sourav Ganguly, earlier it was announced to induct another Indian Anjum Chopra into the Hall of Fame.

This year’s inductees represent the highest standards of excellence, and each of them has earned the admiration of fans around the world.”

“Sourav, Anjum and Kevin have led their national teams with pride, and on behalf of the ICC I would like to congratulate them on this honour. Their place in the ICC Hall of Fame ensures that their achievements will be celebrated alongside the game’s greatest figures for generations to come.”
